Lady Wolves blaze to 3–0 start

The Green River Lady Wolves aren't easing into their first season in 4A Soccer - they're charging in full throttle. With a perfect 3–0 conference record and an explosive goal differential of 33–1, the Lady Wolves are playing fast, fierce, and with something to prove.

Head Coach Matt Robles is thrilled with how his team has opened the season.

"It's playing out exactly how we hoped," he said. "We moved up from 3A to 4A, and we knew there would be growing pains, but these girls have come out and shown we're here to compete."

After their strong start defeating Evanston and Riverton, the Lady Wolves weren't done yet. Green River returned to their home turf last Saturday and unleashed a 19–0 offensive avalanche on Star Valley, proving they're not just showing up in 4A-they're taking over.

At the heart of that charge is Junior Standout Isabell Vasco, whose relentless drive and energy are impossible to miss as she consistently sets the tone with her leadership and attacking presence. Vasco scored 11 goals in the game against Star Valley, breaking the GRHS school's single-game scoring record. The previous record was 10 goals in one game, which was set by Vasco last year.

"She's constantly pushing the pace and pulling the team forward," said Robles.

But, it's far from a one-woman show. Freshman Midfielder Brookelyn Phillips is making strides early in her debut season. She opened her scoring account in style last week, recording a hat trick against Star Valley and notching multiple assists so far this year. She's quickly becoming a key creative force in the Lady Wolves' midfield engine.

On the defensive end, the team is anchored by standouts Mylie Mele and Claira Kuball, whose composure and grit have helped limit opponents to just a single goal across three matches. Goalkeepers Alex Sotos and Mikayla Flores continue to hold their ground, combining for two clean sheets and keeping communication sharp along the back line.

With confidence high and chemistry growing, the Lady Wolves are charging into a pivotal stretch. They travel to face Jackson-the 4A state runner-up from last season- today before returning home Friday for a long-awaited rivalry match against Rock Springs.

"We haven't played Rock Springs in two years," Robles said. "Back when this year's seniors were freshmen, we lost to them twice. That one's personal, and the girls know it."

But the challenge doesn't stop there. After Rock Springs, Green River will host two Casper heavyweights-Kelly Walsh and Natrona County, both known for deep playoff runs and strong rosters. Natrona's goalkeeper is already committed to Black Hills State, and Coach Robles knows these next two weeks could shape the rest of the season.

"This stretch is a gut check," he said. "We've told the girls-we have to show up every game, every half, every minute. And they're ready."

So far, the Lady Wolves have been relentless, fearless, and united. And if the first three games are any sign of what's to come, the season is heating up-and so are the Lady Wolves.
