The Green River High School Girls Soccer team opened their 2024 season in commanding fashion, delivering two impressive conference victories that firmly established them as a team to watch. With a combined score of 14–1 over the course of two matches, the Lady Wolves showcased not only offensive firepower but also a disciplined, unified approach on both sides of the ball.
The season began Friday afternoon with a resounding 11–0 win over Evanston. From the first whistle, Green River controlled the tempo, dictated possession, and consistently found the back of the net. Isabell Vasco turned in a performance for the record books, scoring nine goals that stunned the crowd and overwhelmed the Red Devils' defense. Brynlee Cordova added two goals of her own, rounding out a dominant display of attacking prowess.
Green River's midfield connected efficiently, while the defensive line shut down any momentum Evanston attempted to build. Goalkeeper Alex Sotos held firm in the net, contributing to a well-earned shutout.
On Saturday, the Lady Wolves carried that momentum into their matchup against Riverton. Though the opposition posed a stronger challenge, Green River stayed composed and secured a solid 3–1 victory. Once again, Vasco led the offensive charge, recording all three goals and bringing her season total to 12 goals in just two games. Her consistency and poise under pressure have already made her a defining force this season.
Green River's defense continued to impress, limiting Riverton's chances and allowing just a single goal across two full matches. Sotos and fellow goalkeeper Mikayla Flores each contributed key saves throughout the weekend, while the back line held strong under pressure. With two conference wins under their belt, the Lady Wolves now prepare for another major test this coming weekend. Green River will host Star Valley at home on Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m., and the team is looking to keep the momentum alive.
The message is clear: this team is determined, disciplined, and ready for more. The 2025 season is just getting started-and the Lady Wolves are already making it one to remember.
