Boys Soccer conquers Evanston and Riverton at home

The Green River Wolves Boys Soccer team started their season strong on their home field last weekend. The Wolves won their first two conference games against Evanston and Riverton.

Green River played the Evanston Red Devils on Friday, March 21. The Wolves dominated the first half of the game scoring three goals. In the second half, the Wolves scored five more goals to Evanston's two goals. Green River won the game with a final score of 8-2.

Leading the Wolves was Braxton Doak with four goals and three assists, along with Gavin Mares with two goals and one goal each from Irie Kuball amd Izyk Arellano. Goalkeeper Jake Demaret also had 12 impressive saves during the game.

Head Coach Josh Webb was extremely pleased with the outcome of the game.

"The boys played very well against Evanston," he explained. "Our attacking play was there, our transition was there and our passing was there with off-ball movement."

On Saturday, the Wolves played the Riverton Wolverines. Green River dominated the first half of the game again, scoring three goals. In the second half, Green River scored one more goal while Evanston finally got on the board with one goal. Green River won the game with a final score of 4-1.

Doak lead the team again with two goals, followed by one goal from Dominick Littlefield and Mares. Kuball and Arellano had one assist each and Demaret had two saves during the game.

Coach Webb said the boys played very well against Riverton. He said it was very windy on Saturday and it caused some problems for the team with their possession of the ball. Green River adjusted for the weather and was able to come out on top again.

The Wolves have been very dedicated at practices and have been applying their knowledge on the field. For being a younger team this year, the boys have shown that they have what it takes to be successful.

"We have been trying to get them to this point and they're starting to seize things and they're starting to mature. It's really showing and it's fun to watch," he said. "I'm very proud of them."

Green River will face many different teams this year since they moved from 3A to 4A. The coach is excited to see how Green River will stand up against the 4A teams from around the state.

"We have Star Valley coming up on Saturday and that opponent can be pretty big and physical. They have a lot of good athletes so we will see how we do against them. We also play Jackson the week after that and thats going to be a good game," said Coach Webb.

Green River will host a game against the Star Valley Braves on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then the Wolves will travel to Jackson next Thursday to take on the Broncs at 5 p.m.
