The Green River Lady Wolves Softball team began making preparations for their 2025 season last week. The team will be led by a new head coach this year, Mark Hyde, who was one of the assistant coaches for the team last year. He'll have the help of three assistant coaches: Danielle Kendall, Alissa Davis and Jessica Polaski.
The team started practices on March 10. Coach Hyde said that practices have been going well so far, and they he and the team are excited for the upcoming season. The team has seven seniors this year, which should provide them with a lot of leadership and experience as they get ready for the season. The seniors are Haidyn Terry, Kodi Allred, Izzy Kelley, Ally White, Chacee Shiner, Emma Rieck and Danielle Maag.
Coach Hyde stated that these seniors are good leaders, and that they've "helped the younger girls work into their roles."
The new Varsity team for this season includes, Izzy Kelley, Ally White, Haidyn Terry, Kodi Allred, Chacee Shiner, Emma Rieck, Danielle Maag, Imagin Wilde, Tayen Miller, Taylor Dane, Jocelyn Shantz, Sydney Lopez, Cassie Kelley, Molly Thompson and Hadlee Mortimer.
During the off season, the coaches held open gyms a couple times a week starting in November to help the team get in shape for their upcoming season. Coach Hyde also mentioned that many of the girls played on summer teams last year, including teams in Rock Springs, Gillette, and even Utah.
Last year, the Lady Wolves were able to qualify to play in the 4A State Championships. Unfortunately, they lost to Campbell County and Rock Springs and were eliminated from the tournament. So this year the team will be looking to put together another solid season and make their way back to the State Championships for their shot at redemption.
This weekend the Lady Wolves will be headed to Cheyenne to play in their first tournament. There will be two games on Friday and two games on Saturday, for both the varsity and JV squads. Their first home game will be the next weekend, on March 28, against Cheyenne East.
