Wrestlers finish season at State Championships

The Green River Wolves Wrestling teams sent their State qualifies to Casper this weekend to compete at the 2025 4A State Wrestling Championships. The State tournament took place from Thursday, Feb. 27 to Saturday, March 1 at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.

For the Lady Wolves, four girls qualified for State, including one senior and three sophomores from the roster of nine wrestlers, five of whom were freshmen.

Leading the way for the Lady Wolves was Lily Harris, Green River's lone State Champion this year for girls or boys. Harris wrestled in the 130 pound class, completing an outstanding senior season with an undefeated record of 19-0. She finished by winning the championship match with a technical fall score of 15-0.

The other Lady Wolves competing and scoring points at State were Sophomores Bianca Maez, Kamille Wadsworth and Adia Price. Maez had a 25-13 season record and finished with a two-win, two-loss record at State. Wrestling at 140 pounds with a season record of 14-14, Wadsworth won one and lost two at State. Price finished by winning two and losing two in the 190 pound weight class.

These four girls' efforts resulted in Green River finishing 16th in the team competition out of 45 teams competing.

Head Wrestling Coach Josh Wisniewski said the girls competed well, pointing out that they each earned at least one victory at State.

"I am incredibly proud of Lily and the team," the coach said, highlighting Harris. "She is the first undefeated individual State Champion for the Green River Lady Wolves Wrestling program. Lily is a wonderful person and an outstanding ambassador for young wrestlers aspiring to be Lady Wolves someday. I am very happy for Coach Clayton Wright and Eric Harris; they are doing an excellent job of preparing these ladies to compete and building the program."

For the Boys team, the Wolves qualified 20 wrestlers for the State Tournament, including two freshmen, nine sophomores, four juniors and five seniors.

Top finishers included Sophomore Tavin Vendetti at 113 pounds winning five and losing one to take third place, and Senior Kaleb Gunter at 120 pounds also winning five and losing one and taking third place. Other top six placers included Sophomore Timothy Robinson at 175 pounds wining four and losing two to take fourth place, and Sophomore Jeremiah Musbach winning four and losing two and finishing in fifth place.

"Although it wasn't the weekend we expected, I am proud of this team," Coach Wisniewski commented. "They wrestled hard and did everything we asked of them leading up to the State competition. It was just one of those weekends where we didn't achieve the results we wanted. They worked hard all season and are a great group of young men."

The coach shared his gratitude to his other coaching staff members Eric Wright, Justin Lamb, Marshall Rhodes and Joe Hamel "for the endless hours and hard work they put into the season."

Coach Wisniewski also said that the team will miss the seniors leaving this year, including Kaleb Gunter, Kendal Porter, Jayce Stewart, Logan Bauers, Jakob Lloyd, Zach Dalton, and the team's manager Kylie Miller.

"They have left a legacy of great character and hard work for the underclassmen on our team," the coach said. "I am excited to see what the future holds for this young group of men."
