Green River falls to cross-county rivals

The Green River Wolves Basketball team took to the court Friday night against their cross-county rivals, looking to close out conference play with a statement win. For the first half of the game, they were right there with Rock Springs. The Wolves played with intensity, executing their game plan and heading into the locker room tied at halftime. But a strong third-quarter surge from Rock Springs proved to be the difference, and Green River couldn't quite recover, ultimately falling 70-52.

"We came out and played a great first half on Friday night," said Head Coach Laurie Ivie. "We went into the locker room tied at half. We let Rock Springs go on a run in the third quarter and couldn't quite dig ourselves out of the hole."

Despite the loss, several Wolves had standout performances. Adam Robertson led the team in scoring with 11 points, providing a strong offensive presence, while Dawson Peterson grabbed four key defensive rebounds to battle for possessions. Green River showed flashes of dominance, but against a tough Rock Springs squad, consistency across all four quarters was crucial.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, Green River now turns its full focus to the Class 4A Regional Tournament, where everything is on the line. As the Northwest's number four seed, the Wolves will face off against the top-seeded Star Valley Braves from the Southwest today at 8:15 p.m. The stakes couldn't be higher-win, and they move one step closer to a state tournament appearance. Lose, and they'll be fighting through the consolation bracket for a shot at redemption.

This tournament is the defining moment of the season. Every lesson learned from their toughest matchups, every adjustment made after each game, and every ounce of fight they've shown so far will be put to the test. Star Valley won't make it easy-few number one seeds do-but Green River has proven that when they bring their best effort, they can compete with anyone.

The road ahead is uncertain, but one thing is clear-Green River is still in the hunt. The Wolves will step onto the court Thursday night with everything to play for, and they aren't done writing their season's story just yet.
