The Green River Wolves Swimming and Diving team is heading into the Wyoming State Championships with momentum, confidence, and a hunger to compete. After a season filled with dedication and progress, the team put up dominant performances in their final meets, breaking multiple pool records and securing key State qualifications.
"They've worked really hard this year, and they have improved immensely from the beginning to the end of the season," said Head Coach Colleen Seiloff. "The hay is in the barn. Now, we're just looking forward to watching them swim this week. It's going to be fun, and it's going to be competitive."
The Wolves proved their strength in the final tune-up meets before State, showcasing incredible talent and depth. Senior Keegan Gailey delivered a historic performance in diving, breaking the pool record for 11 dives with a score of 490.55. His consistency on the board has made him one of the top competitors in Wyoming heading into the final showdown in Gillette.
In the pool, Colin Gilmore put on a stunning display of speed, breaking the pool record in the 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 47.67. His dominant performance cements his status as one of the state's top sprinters and sets the stage for an exciting State competition.
Green River's relay teams have been a force all season, and the 200-yard Freestyle relay team of Ashton Hafner, Gilmore, Andrew Neher, and Mitchell Horn added another record-breaking performance, touching the wall at 1:30.45. The team's speed, precision, and seamless exchanges will make them a formidable contender in Gillette.
Beyond the record-breaking swims, Green River's depth has been one of its biggest strengths. Seiloff emphasized that the Wolves are bringing a well-rounded team that is ready to fight for every point.
"We have some athletes that are definitely going to be in the thick of things," Seiloff said. "And as a team, we're going to be competitive."
The Wolves picked up three more qualifiers at the Last Chance meet including Senior Logan Gray, who will compete in the 50-yard Freestyle. Landen Meese punched his ticket in the 500-yard Freestyle and Murdoch Crowell qualified in the 100-yard Breaststroke, proving that Green River's distance swimmers are just as competitive as their sprinters. Aiden Neher continues to be a key contributor, winning the 100-yard Butterfly in 57.97.
Green River's relay teams have also been crucial to the team's success. In addition to the record-breaking 200-yard Freestyle Relay, the 400-yard Freestyle Relay team took second place with a time of 3:51.51, while the 200-yard Medley Relay team continues to refine their performance, finishing in first with a time of 1:49.36. With the regular season behind them, the Wolves are fine-tuning their technique and resting in preparation for the biggest meet of the year.
"We're resting right now, just working on technique, and trying to tune those things up," Seiloff said. "We'll see what happens."
The State competition in Gillette is expected to be one of the closest in years, with multiple teams vying for top finishes. Seiloff believes the team standings are wide open, making for an unpredictable and thrilling state meet.
"I was talking to another coach during Conference, and I think anywhere from second to about sixth place could be anybody," Seiloff said. "It's going to be very close and competitive."
The team departs for Gillette on Thursday, and the excitement among the athletes is palpable.
"We're excited and have been working hard," Seiloff said.
With a season of record-breaking performances behind them, the Wolves now set their sights on the biggest stage in Wyoming high school swimming. If their recent results are any indication, Green River is more than ready to make a statement at State.
