Green River’s Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams competed this past week at Idaho State University’s Holt Areana in Pocatello, Idaho for the Dragalia Invite, going up against 38 teams from five states.
Head Coach Dan Hansen felt the team did really well, noting that several of the kids qualified to go to the very prestigious Simplot Games on the same track as the Dragalia Invite, which will be held next week, with six girls and eight boys having made the qualifying marks.
The coach went on to comment on the fine performances of his team, noting that Konnor Sleight dropped a full second in the 200-meter Dash, and Jordan Andrew dropped six seconds in the 1600-meter Run.
Vivian Murray also dropped five seconds in the 400-meter Run, while Izzy Murdock improved seven seconds in the 800-meters and 14 seconds in the 1600-meter Run. Also improving was Meeka Iwen, who dropped a minute in the 3,200-meter Run.
In the field events, Lillian Allison had a 16-inch gain in the Shot Put, going over 40 feet for the first time in her career. Allison also set a new school record in the Weight Throw at 40-10.50 inches. Finally, Hansen singled out Dallan Rosene also having a solid day in the High Jump and 60-meter Dash.
The team will have two week after this meet to refine their craft for those that qualified for the Simplot Games. The others on the team will be working, according to Hansen, toward improving for the University of Wyoming meet on February 28 to qualify for the State Indoor Championships.
Hansen concluded that “it is an exciting time of the year for the Indoor season.”
