The Green River Fire Department has been celebrating good news recently, from promotions to donations.
Tom Madura took an oath recently to become on of the newest members of the GRFD's Officer Corps as a lieutenant, the GRFD reported.
A special swearing-in ceremony was hosted by the fire department, during which Madura was sworn in by Chief Larry Erdmann and was pinned by his wife, Keri. Madura has two sons, Remington and Thomas, and one daughter, Mckenzie. Members of the GRFD and Madura's family and friends were present at his pinning.
Madura began his fire career in 2009 and was an ADO (Apparatus Driver Operator) before being promoted to lieutenant, according to the GRFD.
"Congratulations Lt. Tom Madura on your recent promotion!" the GRFD said.
The fire department also recently celebrated special donations from community members and local businesses.
Corporal Bruce King of the US Marines, along with his father, Matthew King, recently donated a handmade wooden flag to the Green River Fire Department.
"They spent time in their shop working on this flag while CPL King was home on leave," the GRFD shared. "Bruce spent a fair amount of time with the GRFD before entering the Marines. The Kings wanted to show their appreciation for the firefighters here in Green River and for all they have done for the community and the King family. Thank you King family!"
Another donation came in the form of two child safety seats and three Safety First Child Home Safety Sets, donated by Elysha Dean Allstate Insurance to help support both the fire department and local families in need.
Four Green River firefighters - Jeff Bowles, Kenna Poll, Matthew Meadows, and Broc Serres - recently completed certification in child safety restraints through a three-day course led by Stephanie Heitsch, Project Coordinator for Safe Kids Worldwide, the GRFD reported.
"Green River Fire is working to build a Child Safety Restraint Program, which will include an annual Child Seat Safety Inspection Day to help educate families on proper installation and usage," the department explained. "In the near future, we plan to alternate with Sweetwater Fire District 1 to host smaller monthly safety programs. We appreciate the support of Elysha Dean Allstate Insurance in helping us make child safety a priority in our community."
