A space heater seems to be the cause of a structure fire in Green River earlier this week.
At 6:01 p.m. on Monday, February 3, the Green River Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a house fire. The first truck arrived within four minutes, finding heavy smoke and heat but no visible flames, the GRFD reported. The fire was contained in under two hours, with the last engine clearing the scene at 7:32 p.m.
"A total of 15 firefighters and two engines responded, working quickly to contain the situation," the fire department explained.
While the investigation is still ongoing, early findings suggest the fire was caused by a space heater placed too close to combustible materials, the GRFD reported.
"As temperatures fluctuate, please keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything flammable and never leave them unattended," the GRFD shared. "Thank you to the Green River Police Department, Castle Rock Ambulance, and Sweetwater Combined Communications for their assistance. We appreciate the teamwork that keeps our community safe."
