This past Friday and Saturday, Green River High School's Wrestling teams returned home to host another regional tournament on their schedule. The Thoman Invitational included Campbell County, Evanston, Kemmerer, Laramie, Lyman, Mountain View, Pinedale, Worland and Green River for the Wyoming teams competing, as well as Grantville and Uinta teams from Utah and a team from Rifle, Colorado.
Uinta's always-strong wrestling program finished first in the boys competition. Green River, despite some problems with the flu bug, had a strong performance, taking second place. There were no team scores for the girls.
Three Green River wrestlers qualified for the Best of the Best wrestle-offs, with Bentley Johnson being the lone Champion for the Wolves.
Head Wrestling Coach Josh Wisnewski felt that "it was nice to compete in front of friends, family, and fans." He thought that his team wrestled hard and was able to get in a lot of matches, "despite dealing with the flu bug, so as a team we weren't at our best." He did add, however, that "we are going to continue getting better everyday and focusing on being great people." Finally, Coach Wisnewski commented that the team is looking forward to competing against Lander this weekend.
