Green River Boys Basketball opens conference play with tough battles

The Green River High School Boys Basketball team kicked off their conference schedule last week with back-to-back road matchups against Riverton and Evanston. Despite falling short in both games, the Wolves showed glimpses of their potential and highlighted areas for growth as they continue their season.

Thursday's game against Riverton saw the Wolves battling hard but ultimately falling 47-55. Hunter Lake led the offense with a strong 15-point performance while also contributing five defensive rebounds. AJ Keelin was relentless on the boards, pulling down four offensive rebounds to give the Wolves critical second-chance opportunities. Dylan Archibald added seven points, showcasing his versatility and willingness to step up in key moments.

Friday night brought a matchup against Evanston, where the Wolves again showed flashes of progress but were outpaced, finishing 45-63. Lake continued his scoring streak, leading the team with 13 points, while Jake Demaret added 10 points, providing a spark to the offense. Archibald and Dax Taylor worked hard on the boards, with Archibald grabbing four defensive rebounds and Taylor contributing three on the offensive end.

Coach Laurie Ivie reflected on the weekend's challenges and what lies ahead for the team.

"One of the key challenges we continue to face is our turnover margin, which remains much higher than we'd like," Ivie explained. "We need to focus on better ball control and placing a greater emphasis on valuing each possession."

Despite the losses, the Wolves demonstrated growth and resilience.

"We're seeing improvement in some key areas, and I'm proud of how this team is continuing to fight and stay positive," Ivie added. "Conference play is a grind, and it's all about taking the lessons from each game and putting them into practice moving forward."

The Wolves are gearing up for two crucial home games this weekend against Casper Natrona and Casper Kelly Walsh. With the support of their home crowd and the lessons learned from last week's contests, Green River is eager to put their growth into action and secure some much-needed wins.
