Richard McQueen, 72, a lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Wyoming, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at The University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a life-long resident of Wyoming.
Mr. McQueen was born Friday, June 13, 1952, in Rock Springs; the son on John McQueen and Grace Phillips. Richard spent his entire life contributing to the community and making lasting memories with his cherished family and friends.
Richard's journey in life was marked by his dedication to his family, country, and work. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, embodying the spirit of service and resilience. Following his military service, Richard devoted 51 years of his life to his career as a Miner at FMC with 15 of those years being a part of the Mine Rescue Team, retiring in 2023 after more than five decades of hard work and commitment. Throughout his career, Richard was an active member of the United Steelworkers Union, advocating for the rights and welfare of his fellow workers.
As a man of many interests, Richard spent his free time indulging in activities he loved. His passion for the outdoors often found him hunting, backpacking, and fishing with friends and family. Richard was also an avid participant in pool, horseshoes, and golfing, and he cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, leaving behind fond memories that will continue to enrich their lives.
Richard was actively involved in several community organizations, including the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E 624, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 151, American Legion Archie Hay Post 24. Through these affiliations, he built lifelong friendships and made significant contributions to his community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie McQueen of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one daughter, Tiffany McQueen and husband Jeremy McCurdy of Rock Springs, Wyoming; two beloved grandsons, Joshua and Nicholas Glasco of Castle Rock, Colorado. Richard is also survived by his brother, Ronald McQueen, and his wife, Janis, of Depot Bay, Oregon; father-in-law, George Pankey of Rock Springs, Wyoming; and nieces and nephews, Sherry McQueen-Toomey, Toni Edwards, and Brett Edwards.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his brother, Robert McQueen, and his sister, Judy Edwards. He was also predeceased by his nephew, David McQueen; nieces, Terry Edwards and Arleen Englert; and mother-in-law, Harriet Pankey.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming. Military Honors, Graveside Services and Interment will be in Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services.
