Boys Swimming
The Green River High School Boys Swimming and Diving team worked hard to keep growing throughout their season at the start of 2024. While it was a young team overall, the Wolves kept at it and made steady improvements. They picked up qualifiers for State at meets throughout the season, ultimately taking 17 athletes to compete. The team had an exciting and successful time at the 3A Conference Championships, where they took third place and had several athletes finish with All-Conference Honors. The Wolves also worked hard at State, finishing sixth out of the 13 teams.
Wrestling
The Green River Wrestlers came out on top all throughout their season. The Wolves and Lady Wolves Wrestling teams both had a strong year, holding their own against teams from not only Wyoming, but also Utah and Colorado. They regularly came away with top finishes, both as individuals and as a team. The Boys Varsity team was especially strong, finishing first at multiple tournaments. The Wolves were the Regional Champions and qualified 20 wrestlers for State, along with three female Varsity wrestlers. Then the Wolves finished the year by taking home the 3A State Championship win.
Boys Basketball
The GRHS Boys Basketball team had a tough season, but showed resilience and determination throughout, fighting through multiple "nail biter" games and leaving everything on the court. While the team faced many losses, they consistently learned from those experiences and made improvements. While the Wolves celebrated two wins over cross-county rival Rock Springs during the season, they came up short against the Tigers at Regionals, where their season ultimately ended.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Wolves basketball team had to struggle to overcome obstacles throughout their season, including having to push forward without several of their key athletes who were unable to play. The team fought through a constant back and forth of wins and losses throughout the year. They were seeded second going into the 4A West Regional Basketball Tournament, hosted in Green River. After one win and one loss, everything came down to the game against Rock Springs. Unfortunately Green River lost the game by six points, ending their season.
Indoor Track
Green River had a strong showing during the short Indoor Track season, with a large team and top finishes throughout. With 21 boys and 11 girls participating, the Wolves and Lady Wolves competed against hundreds of other athletes at multiple large meets, including the prestigious Simplot Games, one of the top meets in the nation. Team members regularly beat their own personal records, and even set new school records. The GRHS team regularly had athletes secure top finishes throughout the season, including at the State Championships.
Boys Soccer
The Wolves Soccer team was on a winning streak through most of their season. At one point mid-season the boys won eight games in a row and secured the number one rank in the 3A West. They finished the season with a 14-4 record overall, ultimately going into the State Championship ranked number two. After two wins at State, the team faced off for the title with the Cody Broncs, but ultimately lost the game after having several players injured. The Wolves came away with second place at State, but a strong season full of wins overall.
Girls Soccer
With a young team dreaming of taking home a trophy from State, GRHS Girls Soccer not only made it to State for the first time in seven years, but brought home the trophy for winning the Consolation Championship. The Lady Wolves played hard and won games all through the season to get them to that point, including having several shut-out victories. The team was significantly helped by Isabel Vasco, who scored 70 goals over the course of the season.
Softball
The GRHS Softball team's season started with wins and losses, and continued with the same energy. The team went back and forth between beating their opponents and facing tough losses throughout the year before making it to the 4A State Championship. While the girls fought hard and played well, they still lost both games at State to end the season. This year the team also said goodbye to some of the seniors who have been with the Softball program since it started.
Track and Field
Taking the competition outside, the Track and Field team had strong performances during their regular season. Green River's team faced tough competition from across the state, as well as uncooperative weather, but the athletes still worked hard to get top finishes as both teams and individuals throughout the year. The team saw consistent improvement and several individual Personal Records, including at Regionals. After qualifying 10 athletes for the State Championships, the Wolves brought home even more individual top-five finishes.
Knights Baseball
The Green River Knights Legion Baseball team battled through highs and lows over the summer, traveling across and even out of Wyoming to face a wide variety of other teams. The Knights also hosted several important tournaments, including the largest varsity baseball tournament in Wyoming at the Wood Bat as well, the West District Tournament, and the Best of the Best Wyoming All Star Game. The Knights C team also worked hard and had a strong season, including winning the gold bracket at the Summer Slam tournament in Evanston and competing and winning multiple games at the Wyoming Legion C State Tournament.
Golf
The GRHS Golf team's mixture of veterans and younger athletes worked hard through their season, showing continual improvement and achieving personal bests. They started the season by hosting one of the biggest golf tournaments Green River has seen, and toward the end of the season they hosted the Junior Varsity Championship as well. The Wolves golfers faced many challenges going from 3A to 4A, and came just short of qualifying for the State Championship, but still had several top finishes throughout the season and had a strong showing at Conference.
Volleyball
Starting the season with optimism and experienced athletes, the Lady Wolves Volleyball team kept their momentum going throughout the year. Despite having to adapt after some injuries at the beginning of the season, the team quickly found their groove and got multiple back-to-back wins. Green River ended up taking second at the 4A West Regionals and fighting through close games at the State Championships.
Football
The Wolves struggled to keep fighting through a tough Football season, ultimately ending with a 1-8 record without making it to the playoffs. The highlight of the season was Green River's win against Rawlins, which they finished with a final score of 28-15. Despite the losses through the rest of the year, the Wolves fought hard and played well, keeping several of the games close. Head Coach Blain Christensen stressed that the team continually improved and is on the right track.
Tennis
Competing through a busy season, the GRHS Tennis teams battled through wins and losses to find exciting victories. Both the boys and girls teams had several shut-out wins and strong individual performances through the year. Green River hosted the Regional Tournament, where the Wolves had more top finishes. The team also finished the season with a strong showing and several victories at State.
Cross Country
Green River's Cross Country team faced multiple challenges through their season, but came away with some impressive finishes. The team moved up to the 4A division, where they faced tough competition and had to run on difficult new courses. Despite the challenges and having many new athletes, the team held their own, getting several top finishes throughout the year. The underclassmen did especially well starting out, with the JV Boys team getting multiple first-place wins. The team finished the season strong, getting new personal records at Regionals and gaining experience at State.
Girls Swimming
Upholding a legacy of excellence, the Lady Wolves Swimming team was consistently strong throughout a demanding season. With a mix of veterans and newcomers, the team faced a number of challenges, from athletes being out to the team not having any divers competing, making it harder to get high team scores. Still, the Lady Wolves saw consistent improvement and had multiple strong individuals with top finishes throughout the year. The team took home the 4A West Conference Championship win, and qualified 14 athletes for State, where they took second place. The team got multiple honors, including Tavia Arnell being named Athlete of the Meet and Athlete of the Year, and Head Coach Colleen Seiloff being named 4A Coach of the Year.
