Green River Police Department officer recovers after fall on ice

Last Thursday, Green River Police Department (GRPD) Community Service Officer Dennis Fryer slipped and fell on the ice on Uinta Drive in front of the Green River Star Office. While he hit his head and was injured, he is now doing better.

The official statement from the GRPD explained that at approximately 10:11 a.m. on December 26, Officer Fryer stopped to investigate a semi tractor that was partially blocking the roadway and to determine if the driver needed assistance.

"While walking up to the semi tractor, Community Service Officer Fryer slipped on the icy road surface, falling into one of the wheels," the GRPD press release explained.

Staff members at the Green River Star observed the incident and reported it to the Sweetwater Combined Communications Center. GRPD officers and Castle Rock Ambulance service were immediately dispatched to the scene. Officer Fryer was then transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

"Community Service Officer Fryer is being treated for injuries sustained during this incident and is doing well," the GRPD reported later in the day. "We would like to thank the Sweetwater Combined Communication Center, Castle Rock Ambulance Service, and Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County for their assistance."

When staff members of the Green River Star shared what happened and asked for prayers for officer Fryer on Facebook, the post reached thousands of community members. Hundreds of people responded, sharing their concerns and hopes for a quick recovery.

On Saturday, December 28, Officer Fryer reached out to the Green River Star to share an update on his condition.

"Hi, this is CSO Dennis Fryer. I wanted to let everyone know I am doing well," he wrote in a message. "I am being discharged from U of U in SLC today. Please let everyone know I am doing well with no long lasting issues. I really appreciate the well wishes from our community. It means a lot. Thank you for thinking about our PD officers. We really have a great community."
