Boys Swimming and Diving makes a splash at Laramie season opener

The Green River High School Boys Swimming and Diving team dove headfirst into the season last weekend with two back-to-back meets in Laramie, showcasing their depth, versatility, and early-season grit. The weekend began with the Laramie Boys Relays, a meet focused solely on team relay events, followed by the Laramie Pentathlon, where each swimmer competed across multiple disciplines to demonstrate their strengths.

At the relay meet, Green River athletes wasted no time finding their rhythm. The 200 Medley Relay A Team of Mitchell Horn, Dallan Owens, Samuel Dockter, and Andrew Neher set the tone for the Wolves with a seventh-place finish at 1:54.82. This performance underscored the team's balance across backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle. In the longer relays, the Wolves' endurance shined through, most notably in the 500 Free Relay where Dockter, Aiden Zimmerman, Vance Lauriski-Adams, and Colin Gilmore raced to an impressive second place with a time of 4:45.88.

Depth played a key role throughout the meet, with Green River fielding multiple relay teams across events. In the 200 Free Relay, Dockter, Ashton Hafner, Keegan Gailey, and Andrew Neher delivered a sixth-place finish, while additional relay squads stepped up to gain valuable experience. Diving was another highlight, as Keegan Gailey earned second place with a score of 208.10, and teammate Johnny Renfro rounded out the top five, solidifying the Wolves as contenders on the boards.

The following day's Pentathlon offered a new challenge, testing each swimmer's versatility across freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley events. With every athlete competing in all disciplines, the meet provided an opportunity for athletes to showcase their strengths and for coaches to identify the best events for each swimmer as the season progresses.

Colin Gilmore emerged as one of Green River's top performers, consistently finishing near the front of the pack. He led the team in the 100 Free with a time of 52.12, placed 10th in the 100 Back at 1:02.23, and clocked a strong 23.81 in the 50 Free. His all-around effort set the standard for the Wolves' weekend.

Mitchell Horn was another standout, with solid performances across his events, including a 55.12 in the 100 Free, 1:07.00 in the 100 Back, and 1:13.44 in the 100 Breast. Samuel Dockter and Aiden Neher also impressed with their endurance and consistency, while Ashton Hafner showcased his sprinting abilities with a 25.07 in the 50 Free and strong showings in the fly and backstroke.

Green River's younger swimmers also stepped up to the plate, demonstrating the program's promise for the future. Kayden Brueckner led the JV group with notable swims, including a 38.87 in the 50 Back and a 35.13 in the 50 Free, while Denim Quesada gained experience across multiple events, further adding to the team's depth.

On the diving boards, the Wolves continued to shine as Keegan Gailey's performance carried over from the previous day. He finished the Pentathlon with a commanding score, followed closely by teammates Tieler Ballard and Johnny Renfro, who added crucial points to the team's effort.

With the season just beginning, the Laramie meets offered a valuable opportunity for Green River athletes to test their endurance, identify strengths, and build the foundation for what promises to be a competitive year. The mix of veteran leadership, standout individual performances, and promising contributions from younger swimmers paints an optimistic picture for the Wolves as they prepare for the weeks ahead.

While there is still work to be done, the Green River Boys Swim and Dive team has already proven that they have the talent, depth, and determination to make waves this season.
