The Green River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track team will kick off their winter sports season in the new year, with their first day of practice scheduled for Monday, January 6. Their first meet will come two weeks later at the Snake River Open in Pocatello, Idaho on Saturday, January 18.
The last day for signing up for Indoor Track is December 6, which will give the team a total of the athletes who will be competing this season. Head Track Coach Dan Hansen is aware of at least 13 seniors, four juniors, 13 sophomores and 13 freshmen so far indicating their plan to participate.
Coach Hansen indicated that with 13 seniors who have been in the program, he expects the leadership will be “top notch.”
As with every sport except football, the Indoor Track team has been moved to the 4A division. Hansen expects 4A to be a little deeper than 3A from top to bottom, but the coach feels that his athletes will be up to the challenge.
Hansen also noted that since the last indoor season a lot of the athletes were involved in other sports and activities to better themselves for the upcoming season.
The coach felt that the team’s biggest strength is the buy-in from the athletes. He went on to explain that “they want to come to practice and improve their skills and become better athletes.” With this in mind, Hansen feels this will help them to improve their performance to score points at the Indoor State Track and Field Championships.
The season will conclude with the State Championship Meet March 7 and 8 in Gillette just prior to the start of the Outdoor Track season.
