Green River resident Timothy Laboria recently shared a reading of "The New Colossus," the poem by Emma Lazarus that is inscribed on the Statue of Liberty, at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center.
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," a famous line from the poem reads. "Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Laboria used a lampstand as a prop for the reading.
"I want to do it justice," Laboria said of the poem. "That's what motivates me."
The reading was attended by Diane Manning, who works for the City of Green River. Laboria said Manning has been his friend for many years, and he was happy she attended the reading.
