The Wolf Pack is dancing its way across the country.
This past weekend the Green River High School Wolf Pack Dance Team competed at the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Regional Championship in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The Wolf Pack placed first in the Hip-Hop category, advancing them to the National Championship.
According to Head Coach Debi Kovick, NDA offers regional competitions across the country throughout the entire year. The closest NDA regionals for the Wolf Pack Dance Team is the Rockies Regional Event in Highlands Ranch.
Kovick stated this is only the second time in her tenure that she has taken a team to an NDA regional event.
"We went last year for the first time," she explained. "The team found it to be a valuable experience. We received professional judges' perspective and feedback. This helped our team enhance their technical skills, movement quality, uniformity, spacing, formations, and staging, which helped lead us to our first ever 3A State Championship in Hip Hop."
The team participated in the Intermediate Hip Hop Division.
"The Intermediate Divisions were created specifically for Varsity Dance Teams like ours who are interested in competing at the regional and national level with others at the same technical level. This division was a great fit for our team who is new to NDA competitions. The feedback we received from NDA Regionals has strengthened our team and helped us to reach our highest potential yet," Kovick explained.
Kovick broke down how teams are scored at the event. Scores are based on performance impression, uniformity, quality of movement, authenticity, choreography, and staging.
"We scored an 85.89% or 51.53 out of 60 points," she said. "Teams need to score a minimum of 50 points to earn a bid to Nationals. We scored first in our division and were the only team in our division to earn a bid to Nationals."
Even before the Regional competition, the Wolf Pack Dance Team had technically qualified for Nationals already when they hosted an NDA team camp earlier in the year.
"We actually qualified for Nationals in May at our NDA home camp," Kovick said. "We performed our 2024 State Hip Hop routine. Our instructor evaluated our team which earned enough points to earn a bid to Nationals on February 14-16, 2025, in Orlando, Florida."
The Wolf Pack Dance Team is also the 2024 3A State Champions in the Hip/Hop category.
Kovick said that the team would like to express their gratitude for all the support they have been given from the school district and the community.
