Whiskey Goats Outdoor Company celebrated their official grand opening in Sweetwater County last Saturday.
While Whiskey Goats has been selling their products online for several years, they've been working on getting their storefront location up and running. Over the past few months, as they've also worked around hunting season, they've had the store open for limited timeframes.
The coming of the store has generated buzz among Green River residents as well as Rock Springs residents, and been promoted by organizations like the Green River Chamber. Now that the official grand opening has taken place, they store is ready to be open regular business hours.
Located in downtown Rock Springs, Whiskey Goats offers functional clothing and outdoor accessories for nature enthusiasts, including many items made right here in Wyoming.
Owner Jessica Evans, a native of Wyoming, explained the inspiration behind her business.
"We hike, we hunt, and we fish all the time," she said. "We made a t-shirt just for fun in 2018, and then people wanted one, and then they wanted hoodies and then they wanted hats. So we thought, 'let's do it, let's make it all.'"
In speaking about what differentiates her business from other similar businesses, Evans explained how they create their own designs.
"We do all our own design in-house, so we get to have our own creative freedom," she said. "A t-shirt is just a t-shirt, and a hoodie is just a hoodie, but we get to put our own kind of spin on it."
Evans said that there were a few challenges that she had to overcome to get to the point at which she could get her storefront up and running.
"Finding a location that was affordable and didn't require a lot of work was a challenge, especially since my number one rule was that we had to be in downtown," she explained.
Evans, whose background is in marketing as the owner of Royal Flush Advertising, emphasized the importance of using social media as an important marketing medium.
"I have ads in the restrooms at the airport and in Cowboy Coupons, but we do a lot through social media and online marketing too," she said, adding that these platforms are "both very popular and important in 2024 for advertising."
When asked what advice she would give anyone who wants to or is thinking about starting a new business, Evans replied that research is key.
"Definitely do your research and see what is out there as far as your competition and how you can set yourself apart from them, but also how you may be able to work with them," she said. "We have done well collaborating with several different companies for some fun upcoming events."
Some of the upcoming events Whiskey Goats has scheduled include a "Sip and Shop" event co-hosted with Square State Brewing on Saturday, November 30.
Evans welcomes everyone to come check out Whiskey Goats.
"We look forward to being the primary source of gear for outdoor enthusiasts," she said.
