The Green River Lady Wolves Volleyball team closed their regular season with a powerful sweep, winning back-to-back matches against Lyman and Rock Springs last week. Head Coach Jessica Demaret expressed pride in her team's recent performance, noting that each match presented unique challenges that the Wolves tackled head-on.
Lyman, a consistently strong team in the 3A division, hosted Green River for what would be the Lady Wolves' fourth match in seven days.
"Going on the road and beating them in three was a nice accomplishment for our team," said Demaret.
The Lady Wolves showcased resilience and skill, clinching victory with scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-18. This win demonstrated the team's growing momentum as they prepare for post-season competition.
Returning home for their final regular-season game, Green River took on Rock Springs in their highly anticipated Dig Pink Game. The game held special significance, as the event not only focused on securing another win but also celebrated a cause close to many of the players and fans.
"We were glad to be back in GR on our home court," Demaret shared, noting that emotions can run high in cross-town rivalries. Despite any added pressure, the team took control early, taking the first two sets 25-22 and 25-14.
The third set was particularly intense, as Rock Springs mounted a strong comeback attempt. The Lady Wolves found themselves trailing, but their determination showed.
"Being down in the third set and coming back to win 26-24 is a testament to the fight and never-give-up attitude of our volleyball team this year," Coach Demaret added. This comeback secured Green River's 3-0 victory over Rock Springs, providing a solid close to their regular season.
With the Regional tournament on the horizon, the Lady Wolves have been focusing on refining their skills in practice. Coach Demaret emphasized the need to minimize errors that have occasionally cost them points.
"We're fine-tuning some things and working to reduce the number of unearned points we've been giving up," she explained. The team is taking a focused approach as they prepare to face Jackson in the first round of Regionals on Friday.
Looking ahead, Coach Demaret recognizes that Jackson is a "scrappy, defensive team" that challenges opponents to earn each point. The Lady Wolves will enter the tournament ready to bring the same level of grit and determination that has defined their season so far.
"Right now, our main focus is Jackson," Demaret stated, underscoring the team's disciplined approach as they aim to continue their winning streak.
The Lady Wolves are set to take the court at 3 p.m. on Friday, and Green River will be able to see how the team's hard work and dedication will play out in Regionals.
