Lady Wolves are 4A West Conference Champions!

The Green River High School Lady Wolves Swim team made a splash at the 4A West Conference Championships, showcasing the depth and determination of a team that has spent months honing their skills for peak performances in the season's most critical meets. With both individual and relay events exceeding expectations, the Lady Wolves left the meet with the first-place win and their sights set on the State Championships.

The Lady Wolves were the overall 4A West Conference Champions, with Tavia Arnell honored as both Athlete of the Meet and Athlete of the Year, and Head Coach Colleen Seiloff honored as Coach of the Year.

Coach Seiloff, visibly proud of her team's showing, commended her swimmers for the dedication they've shown throughout the season.

"I'm just really proud of the work they've put in," she said. "They've stayed together as a team, and it's exciting to see the payoff."

Arnell was the Conference Champion in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard Butterfly, while Tanith Smith claimed a victory in the 50-yard Freestyle and second place in the 100-yard Freestyle. Other Conference champions were Haley Clevenger in the 500-yard Freestyle and Kaylin Uhrig in the 100-yard Breaststroke.

The Lady Wolves 'A' relay team dominated the 200-yard Medley and the 200-yard Freestyle events while placing second in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.

"The relays were fantastic to watch," Seiloff said, adding that one close finish "came down to just a touch."

Seiloff's coaching approach, which emphasizes growth and cohesion, has been a driving force behind the Lady Wolves' successes this season. This supportive environment has allowed each swimmer to thrive, with standout contributions from swimmers like Junior Katelyn Maez and Senior Mallery Lyon being prime examples of how commitment translates into success in the pool.

Katelyn Maez, who qualified for State in the 100-yard Freestyle with a personal-best time of 1:03.35, has been an integral part of the Lady Wolves' successes this season.

Senior Mallery Lyon delivered what Coach Seiloff described as her "best meet of her high school career," with substantial time improvements that left spectators and teammates impressed. Lyon, who earned a top-six finish in the 100-yard Breaststroke and broke into the top 12 in the 200-yard IM, is finishing her high school swimming career on a high note. Coach Seiloff praised Lyon for her dedication and resilience, mentioning that Lyon's impressive showing was a long time coming.

"She doesn't always get the spotlight, so it was wonderful to watch her excel," Seiloff said, highlighting Lyon's growth over the season and her contributions as a senior leader.

While Maez and Lyon were focal points, the entire team performed exceptionally well, showing the Lady Wolves' strength in teamwork. Freshman Zoie Gilmore also made waves with a breakout performance in her first conference championship, finishing in the top 12 in the 200-yard Freestyle and the top six in the 500-yard Freestyle. Gilmore's early success has made her one to watch as the team heads to State.

Looking ahead to State, Seiloff emphasized the importance of focusing on one event at a time. With 14 qualifiers, the Lady Wolves are preparing for competitive races and have high hopes of placing well.

"The girls have just as good a chance as anyone to place well," Seiloff said. "We're focused on controlling what we can, and we'll let the results speak for themselves."

This season has been one of growth, resilience, and unity for the Lady Wolves. From standout performances to team-wide accomplishments, Green River has set a high bar for themselves this season, making a strong case for success at the upcoming State Championship. Coach Seiloff and her swimmers are optimistic and prepared for what lies ahead, ready to finish the season strong in a true celebration of the hard work that has defined their journey.
