City hopes for feedback, volunteers
Plans for next year's Flaming Gorge Days event are already underway.
A public meeting was held Tuesday, October 29 to begin discussions on the planned 2025 Flaming Gorge Days, scheduled for June 27-28.
The Green River City Council and Mayor Pete Rust were enthusiastic about bringing back the annual event this past year, and are supporting it moving forward on a larger scale in 2025.
Mayor Pete Rust said "having the event come back this year was important to the community, and we feel the event, even though it was paired down, was a success."
Rust said he and the council look forward to holding the event next year and, with the community and sponsor support, being able to expand it.
The City plans to continue to work with Adelska Event Planning again to help build upon the planning, marketing, social media, and sponsors. According to City Administrator Reed Clevenger, having the website and social media accounts set up and running was time-consuming but was a crucial step in expanding the event.
"It took some time, but having a dedicated website and social media networks up and running will enable us to create things such as community polling to see which events the citizens would like to see included in the future," Clevenger explained.
The City would like to see Flaming Gorge Days expand to include some of the traditional events of past years, while also creating some new ones for everyone to enjoy. Some of the events that citizens have mentioned they would like to see included again are the Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament, vendor fair, the parade, horseshoe tournament, car show, and a Saturday night concert.
Some ideas for new events included a corn hole tournament, youth events such as a chalk art contest along the pathway on Expedition Island, a 5K race, and a pickleball tournament.
City Communications Administrator Steve Core stressed the importance of having community members step in to help facilitate, sponsor and volunteer with the various Flaming Gorge Days events.
"We want to begin the planning process now and get ideas shared and volunteer groups committed early in the process," Core said. "With the right volunteers we can continue to build upon the successes."
Both Clevenger and Core discussed the possibility of different groups volunteering as a fundraiser for their respective organizations.
Clevenger explained, "The idea is to get more events sponsored on a corporate level, possibly enabling us to give fundraising opportunities to our volunteer groups, much like it was done in years past."
