The 1-7 Green River Wolves Football team took on the second-ranked 3A team in the state last weekend - the 6-1 Cody Broncs, whose only loss came the previous week to the number-one Star Valley Braves. Cody appeared fired up to get back in the dominating role they have shown all season.
Green River became the third team this season that Cody shut out. The Broncs already beat Douglas 49-0 and Evanston 50-0. The number one team in rushing and number two in passing in the State showed off the number one total offense team with a dominating performance, defeating the Wolves 72-0.
On defense, the Wolves turned the ball over seven times with two fumbles, four pass interceptions and a safety.
Green River Junior Trevor Johnson had a good game at running back, and the Wolves' leading receiver Dylan Taylor caught several passes to increase his all time Green River receiving record. Still, the Wolves just did not get off to the quick start that was one of the keys to the game in pregame interviews. Instead, Cody scored on their first possession, gained the momentum and never let up.
It does not get any easier for the Wolves, who will play their final game of the season on the road this weekend against the number one team in 3A, the Star Valley Braves.
