The Green River High School Lady Wolves Swim team delivered an impressive performance over the weekend at the Cheyenne Pre-Invite on Friday and the Invitational on Saturday. Competing against top-tier schools, including Lander and Laramie, the team showcased their growth and determination as they picked up key wins and new State qualifiers.
Friday's Pre-Invite was a no-score meet, allowing the swimmers to focus on their technique without the pressure of competing for points. Head Coach Colleen Seiloff was pleased with the team's performance, highlighting the opportunity to prepare for the more competitive Saturday events.
"Friday was a no-score meet," Coach Seiloff explained, "but it gave the girls a chance to really focus on their strokes and pace. For this time of year, I thought we swam really well."
Saturday's Invitational, however, brought out the competitive fire in the Lady Wolves. The team earned standout results across various events, with some swimmers hitting personal bests and securing State-qualifying times. Leading the charge was Tavia Arnell, who dominated multiple events, taking first place in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:13.92) and the 100-yard Butterfly (58.75). Arnell's contributions, along with strong performances from teammates like Tanith Smith, who won the 50-yard Freestyle (25.18) and took second in the 100-yard Freestyle (55.28), helped position Green River in the top spots throughout the meet.
Arnell was also a key member of Green River's relay teams, swimming on both the second-place 200-yard Freestyle Relay (1:44.73) and the first-place 400-yard Freestyle Relay (3:47.80), alongside Smith, Peyton Murray, and Haley Clevenger.
"We've been working hard to improve our relays," said Coach Seiloff. "I've been moving girls around a lot to find the best combinations, and I think we're getting stronger. Our core group of swimmers has really stepped up, and that's showing in the results."
Not only were the more seasoned swimmers making waves-new qualifiers emerged this weekend as well. Coach Seiloff proudly shared that three more athletes hit the mark: Linkin Lucero in the 500-yard Freestyle, Dalynn Graves, and Baylee Cochran.
"It's exciting to see them qualify, especially as we approach the end of the season. They've worked so hard, and to have three new qualifiers at this point is a huge accomplishment for the team," Seiloff said.
In addition to the standout individual and relay performances, Green River swimmers placed competitively in several other events. Clevenger secured a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:10.90), while Uhrig finished sixth in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:16.07). In the distance events, Lucero placed 17th in the 500-yard Freestyle, while Graves followed close behind in 18th. Peyton Murray also placed ninth in the 100-yard Backstroke.
"The girls are tired," Coach Seiloff noted. "They've been working incredibly hard, but their experience is helping them stay competitive, even when they're worn out. I'm really proud of their perseverance."
As the team nears the end of the season, Seiloff is optimistic about their upcoming conference meet and hopeful for more state qualifiers.
"Conference will be a good challenge," she said. "We're looking forward to swimming against strong teams like Jackson, KW, and Riverton. It's the kind of competition that pushes us to be better."
With the conference meet in Evanston this weekend, followed by the last-chance meet, the Lady Wolves are gearing up for their final push before the state championships.
"We're taking it one meet at a time, but the girls are focused and ready for the challenge," Seiloff said. "I'm excited to see how far we can go this season."
As Green River heads into the final stretch, the Lady Wolves will rely on their experience, depth, and continuous growth to make a splash at conference and beyond.
