The Green River Lady Wolves Volleyball team completed a busy week on the road, ending with a 2-1 record after facing Riverton, Kelly Walsh, and Natrona. The week began with a commanding 3-0 victory over Riverton on Tuesday, with set scores of 25-15, 25-1, and 25-20. Coach Jessica Demaret reflected on the match, saying, "We started strong and kept our momentum throughout. It was a solid win that set the tone for the week."
On Friday, the Lady Wolves encountered a tougher challenge against Kelly Walsh, losing 0-3 in a hard-fought match. Despite the defeat, with set scores of 22-25, 25-27, and 24-26, Green River kept every set competitive.
"Even though it was a loss, the girls competed really well. Unfortunately, a few timely mistakes on our end gave Kelly Walsh the edge," Coach Demaret explained. "It's definitely a match we can look back on and learn from, especially as we prepare for Regionals."
Saturday saw a quick turnaround as the Lady Wolves bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Natrona. After dropping the first set 30-32 in a close battle, Green River found their rhythm, winning the next three sets 25-18, 25-23, and 25-14.
"The girls really settled in after that first set and dictated the tempo of the match. They played our game and controlled the pace, which allowed us to take the win," Demaret noted. "It was a great way to end the week on a high note."
With Regionals approaching, the Lady Wolves' performance on the road has positioned them well for the final stretch of conference play.
"These matches were important, and while we had a setback against Kelly Walsh, we showed resilience against Natrona. We know what we need to work on to be ready for the postseason," Coach Demaret added.
As the team prepares for the upcoming challenges, their recent success demonstrates their readiness to compete and adapt when necessary.
"We're happy to come back with a 2-1 record and some wins on the road, which puts us in a good position moving forward," Demaret concluded.
The Lady Wolves will take on the Rock Springs Lady Tigers today at 6 p.m. in Green River for the annual "Dig Pink" game. The Regional volleyball tournament takes place November 1-2 in Evanston.
