Betty Dodd named Volunteer of the Year by MHSC board

Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County Board of Directors were honored to recognize volunteer Betty Dodd as the Wyoming Hospital Association Volunteer of the Year at its October board meeting.

Betty Dodd was recently awarded the Volunteer of the Year at the Wyoming Hospital Association Annual Meeting this fall. She was nominated for her exceptional dedication for almost 14 years at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, as well as her unwavering commitment to volunteerism within the community.

At 93 years old, Dodd has selflessly devoted over 4,915 hours of service to MHSC. She has volunteered her time in every volunteer role within the program, such as delivering the mail, running the gift shop, offering patients items off the comfort cart, as well as assisting in additional daily tasks. Betty has also helped to train many other volunteers within the program. She is a true joy and offers inspiration to her fellow volunteers and our staff.

Dodd began volunteering at the hospital in 2010, where she has become an indispensable member of the volunteer team. Her contributions span various roles, from helping patients find their way around the campus, to assisting staff with daily tasks, or providing comfort items to patients. Currently, she can be found delivering the mail across the hospital, working in the gift shop every Tuesday and Thursday, and welcoming visitors with a smile at the front entrance. Dodd's tireless efforts have not only enhanced the patient's experience but also fostered a spirit of compassion and care within the hospital.

In addition to her remarkable service at the hospital, Dodd is dedicated to delivering home-delivered meals to individuals who are unable to prepare food for themselves. Her reliable and cheerful presence brings much-needed nourishment and companionship to many isolated and vulnerable members of our community. This commitment to ensuring others' well-being exemplifies the true essence of selflessness.

Dodd also actively volunteers at the Episcopal Thrift Shop. Her work in the thrift shop demonstrates her versatility and willingness to serve in any capacity needed, always with a positive attitude and a warm smile.

Lena Warren, Community Outreach Director explained, "Betty's dedication to volunteering is an inspiration to all who know her. Her selflessness, kindness, sense of humor and unwavering commitment to helping others serve as a testament to the incredible impact one individual can have on their community. Her contributions have touched countless lives, and her legacy of service will continue to inspire future generations."
