Lady Wolves Swim team narrowly defeated by Lander

In a closely-contested meet, the Green River Lady Wolves Swimming team fell to the Lander Tigers last week with a final score of 83 to 91. Despite the loss, Green River showcased impressive individual and relay performances, making the competition tight throughout the day.

The Wolves started strong in the 200-yard Medley Relay, with the 'A' team taking first place with a time of 1:58.27. However, Green River's depth in this event wasn't enough to secure significant points, as their other relay teams, while competitive, did not score.

In the 200-yard Freestyle, Green River's Haley Clevenger put on a solid performance, finishing second with a time of 2:05.29, while teammates Zoie Gilmore and Linkin Lucero placed fifth and eighth, respectively. The 200-yard Individual Medley saw a dominant win from Tavia Arnell, clocking in at 2:14.95. Peyton Murray followed closely behind with a third-place finish at 2:30.39.

In the 50-yard Freestyle, Tanith Smith delivered a first-place finish, touching the wall in 25.31 seconds, demonstrating Green River's strength in sprinting events. Alayna Kellhofer added to the team's points with a third-place finish in 26.76 seconds.

Arnell continued her success in the 100-yard Butterfly, taking first place in 1:00.70, contributing more vital points to Green River's tally. Bree Van Etten and Bella Anderson followed in fourth and fifth places. Meanwhile, Kellhofer grabbed another win for Green River in the 100-yard Freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:00.07. Gilmore and Katelyn Maez rounded out the top three in this event.

In the longer distances, Clevenger won the 500-yard Freestyle comfortably in 5:40.14, securing another first-place finish for the Lady Wolves. However, the point gap between Green River and Lander remained narrow heading into the final relay events.

The Lady Wolves triumphed in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:43.97, but the lack of top finishes from other teams in the relay event proved costly in the overall standings. The 'A' team included Arnell, Kellhofer, Clevenger and Smith.

In the Backstroke, Peyton Murray placed third in the 100-yard event with a time of 1:07.50, while the Breaststroke saw a strong showing from Kaylin Uhrig, who secured first place with a time of 1:13.64.

The meet concluded with the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, where the Lady Wolves' 'A' team took second place in 4:06.75. Despite the impressive relay finishes, Green River was unable to close the gap, and Lander secured the win by a narrow margin.

While Green River came up short in the team score, the individual performances and multiple event wins demonstrate the strength and potential of the Lady Wolves as they move forward in their season.
