Wolves Cross Country takes on 17 teams at Lander Invitational

The Green River High School Cross Country team had new teams to run against and a new course last week.

The Wolves headed to Lander for the Lander Invitational hosted by Lander Valley High School last Thursday. Green River faced a total of 17 other teams, going up against groups from Arapahoe, Burlington, Cody, Fort Washakie, Casper, Lander, Lyman, Mountain View, Rawlins, Riverton, Rock Springs, Cowley, St. Stephens, Thermopolis, Pavillion, Worland, and Ethete.

Head Coach Craig Leavitt mentioned that they “had some visitors from Kelly Walsh and other parts of the state,” which was the first time the team saw them all season.

The meet went well for the Wolves, with some runners getting new personal records (PRs).

“Hunter Rushing did really well, he had a big PR,” Leavitt states. “Ryan Kranz had another PR that was pretty good, because it was on a hard course.”

Leavitt is expecting for the next meet to get a “bunch of faster times because it is on a flat course in Saratoga.”

He also mentioned that the next meet will be on a golf course, which they have yet to compete on.

“The golf course will be quite a bit easier,” he said. “It will be flat, nice, soft, even ground, which should be a big confidence boost for the kids, because they are going to be able to run a lot faster than they normally are.”
