The spirit of generosity has been strong in Sweetwater County recently, with several organizations working together to give and receive donations to support important causes.
Boys and Girls Club
"The Boys and Girls Club of Sweetwater County was gifted with an awesome donation for members and families to enjoy," the club recently announced in a press release. "Dawson Bernard chose to donate this year's 4-H pig to the club as part of the Fair to Fork program."
Dawson Bernard is a freshman at Green River High School this year. This is his seventh year showing and raising pigs for 4-H, and his first year with Green River FFA.
"He is excited to explore more with the FFA program," the press release said of Bernard. "In his spare time he enjoys fishing, playing Xbox and spending time with his family. He was excited to be able to help other youth in Sweetwater County."
The Fair to Fork program is part of the First Lady Jenny Gordon's Hunger Initiative that helps many non-profits and organizations throughout Wyoming.
"Sources of high-quality protein are notoriously expensive and difficult to procure for local anti-hunger organizations," the press release said. "In partnership with University of Wyoming Extension 4-H and FFA, Fair to Fork works to purchase secondary hogs through a lottery selection, from every county in Wyoming. Wyoming Hunger Initiative will purchase the pig, ensure the meat is processed by a USDA or state-inspected participating facility, and then coordinate with the 4-H or FFA member to donate it to a local anti-hunger organization in the county of origin."
Women's Club
The GFWC Women's Club of Sweetwater County recently received a donation to help with their latest community impact project.
"This project was the purchase of a six-foot metal bench to be dedicated to veterans and placed beside the columbarium reserved for veterans in the Green River Cemetery," the Women's Club explained in a press release.
JJ Hadley with BAB Investments recently gave the club a generous donation to help complete the project.
"We want to thank BAB Investments as well as the people who donated at our booth at Green River Farmers Market and those who donated at the Green River American Legion," Club President Marcia Volner said. "It is through this support that we are able to help our community."
