The Sweetwater County Assessor’s Office and Assessor Dave Divis want to make local property owners aware of an opportunity to save money on property taxes through the Longterm Homeowners Exemption.
During the last legislative session, House Bill 3 was passed by the Legislature and signed into law by the Governor. This legislation provided an exemption that will reduce the property tax of qualified applicants by 50%. The owner must live in the house eight months of the year, one owner must be 65 years of age by the fourth Monday in May 2025, and must have paid taxes in Wyoming for 25 years.
The Assessor’s Office must verify one of the owners of the property is 65, so they ask applicants to have identification with a birth date available for inspection.
“To make the application process easier for our taxpayers, our office will be at the Green River Senior Center on October 10 from 10:30 to 1,” Assessor Divis announced in a press release. “We will also be at the Rock Springs Senior Center on October 17 from 10:30 to 1. We are planning to have applications available across the county in other locations as well.”
The application can be found on the county’s website under “Departments,” “Assessor,” and “Tax Relief Programs.”
Residents may also drop by the Assessor’s Office to fill out an application form at any time before the application deadline of the fourth Monday of May 2025.
“If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our office,” Divis said.
