The Green River Lady Wolves Volleyball team began their conference play with a spirited performance that bodes well for the rest of the season. Despite battling a series of injuries and facing tough competition, the team was praised by Head Coach Jessica Demaret for their determination and adaptability, underscoring their resilience and potential.
The Lady Wolves took on Natrona County on Friday night, winning 3 matches to secure the victory, and faced Kelly Walsh on Saturday, winning one match but losing three.
"This weekend was an invaluable experience for us," Coach Demaret said. "Starting conference play gave us a chance to see where we stand against some strong teams in our Quad. With injuries impacting our Varsity lineup, it was impressive to see the girls step up, compete fiercely, and even secure a win in a match. Their ability to adapt to new positions and rotations shows how hard they've been working in the gym over the past month."
One of the standout aspects of the Lady Wolves' performance was their net play. Coach Demaret was particularly pleased with the significant strides made in blocking and overall aggressiveness at the net.
"Our blocking has improved remarkably, and the team's aggressive approach at the net was evident throughout the matches," she noted. "This development is a direct result of our focused efforts in practice."
However, not everything went according to plan. The Lady Wolves needed some consistency in their serve receiving.
"We experienced some challenges with serve receive this weekend," Coach Demaret acknowledged. "It's an area we need to work on, and we'll be going back to the basics in practice to strengthen our performance in that regard."
Despite these hurdles, Coach Demaret is optimistic about the team's future.
"We're looking forward to getting some key players back from injuries soon," she said. "The team is well aware of the importance of coming prepared from the very first point. We're taking each game one at a time and focusing on these crucial conference matches to position ourselves favorably by the end of October."
The Lady Wolves' performance this weekend highlights their resilience and potential as they navigate the conference season. Coach Demaret's confidence in her team's ability to overcome challenges and grow is a testament to their dedication and hard work. As they continue their journey, the Lady Wolves are poised to make a significant impact, with their eyes set on a successful season ahead.
