Wolves Tennis team claims victories, sees close defeats

The Green River Wolves Tennis team had a full schedule last week with matches against Rock Springs on Wednesday, Rawlins on Thursday and Laramie on Saturday.

On Wednesday last week the Lady Wolves defeated Rock Springs 5-0. Rylin Arnell won the #1 Singles, Grace Gomez won the #2 Singles, the team of Sydney Lopez and Brynlee Beutel took the #1 Doubles, Savery English and Tori Wahl prevailed in the #2 Doubles, and Alexia Britton and Amanda Davis took the #3 Doubles for a big win.

The boys won a much closer match, finishing with a 3-2 over Rock Springs. Their #1 and #2 Singles players Dylan Archibald and Jake Nielson respectively took their matches, along with the #3 Doubles team of Myers and Maes.

On Thursday, both the girls and the boys teams won big against Rawlins.

The girls defeated Rawlins 4-1, with their only loss being Green River's #1 Singles player Arnell, who lost a close match despite suffering what appeared to be a painful injury early on. Despite the injury, she played through and finished the match.

The boys also won big, shutting out Rawlins 5-0. One of Green River's team captains and their #1 Singles player, Archibald, started slow and was down big to Rawlins' top player. However, according to Head Tennis Coach Phil Harder, Archibald made a great comeback which involved a fun atmosphere at the end of the match as both teams were cheering on their players.

Laramie came in on Saturday. There were some close matches, with the Green River girls dropping a close one 3-2 with a number of tie breaker, and the Green River boys prevailing 3-2 also in a close match with lots of close scores and tiebreakers.

At the end of this long home stand, Coach Harder commented that Jake Nielsen, the boys #2 Singles player, has really come a long way in his singles game. He also pointed out that Rylin Arnell for the girls is a freshman playing the top spot in the state and is a tough, gritty player. Coach Harder went on to compliment the team's Junior Varsity players who played well in Casper.

The season winds down as the Wolves hit the road this week for their last regular season matches against the three Cheyenne teams and Torrington today, Friday and Saturday. These games will end the regular season prior to Regionals next week in Green River.
