The Green River High School Volleyball team showed resilience and progress in their recent performance at the Evanston tournament.
Head coach Jessica Demaret expressed optimism about the team’s direction, stating, “We continue to improve week to week after our first couple of tournaments, which is the direction we want to keep moving.” This steady growth has been a focal point for the Lady Wolves, who are aiming to build momentum as they head into the heart of the season.
The Lady Wolves faced early-season challenges due to key injuries, a hurdle that forced the team to make some quick adjustments.
“We’ve had to work through a few positions to replace those players,” Demaret noted. Despite this, younger players have stepped up admirably, filling roles and performing beyond expectations. “Our younger players stepping into those positions are really doing a great job,” Demaret added.
The team’s ability to adapt in the face of adversity is a testament to their determination. Though these shifts in the lineup have posed difficulties, the Lady Wolves continue to push forward, showing that they have what it takes to stay competitive.
The Evanston tournament proved to be a positive experience overall for the Lady Wolves. While they continue to work on consistency, Demaret views the tournament as a step in the right direction.
“We want to continue playing consistently at a high level of volleyball,” she said, highlighting the team’s focus on finishing strong in matches against both familiar and challenging opponents. “Hopefully, that will come together over the course of the next few weeks so we can put away teams when needed and compete against better teams.”
Though the Lady Wolves didn’t walk away with every win, the tournament provided valuable lessons and further solidified the team’s potential. With the Evanston tournament in the rearview, the Lady Wolves are eagerly anticipating their upcoming home games in Green River. The team is gearing up for conference matches against Natrona and Kelly Walsh this weekend, where they will take to their own court for the first time this season.
Coach Demaret shared her excitement, saying, “We are happy to finally be here in Green River in our own gym this weekend.” Known for their passionate fan base, Green River’s home crowd is expected to bring energy to the games. “Past experience has shown us that Green River fans love their volleyball, and the girls are excited to play in front of their home crowd,” she added.
In a scheduling update, the Lady Wolves’ match times on Friday against Natrona have shifted, with the Sophomore team playing at 3 p.m., Junior Varsity at 4 p.m., and Varsity at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they kick off conference play. As the Lady Wolves prepare to face Natrona and Kelly Walsh, all eyes are on their ability to continue their upward trajectory and bring home crucial wins. With their hard work and community support behind them, the Lady Wolves are poised to make a mark in this season’s competition.
