Lady Wolves showcase strong performances

The Green River Lady Wolves Swimming and Diving team had a rewarding two-day home meet over the weekend, marking a significant point of progress in their season. Head Coach Colleen Seiloff expressed her satisfaction with the team's overall performance, emphasizing that it was an encouraging weekend for both individual swimmers and the team as a whole.

"We had two solid days of swimming," Seiloff commented, reflecting on the meet. "I'm happy with where we are at this part of the season. The girls are putting in the work, and it's paying off."

Competing at home for the first time this season, the Lady Wolves enjoyed the opportunity to perform in front of a supportive local crowd.

"It was really nice to be able to swim at home," Seiloff said. "There's something special about competing in your own pool. It's always great to have that home advantage, and the girls were definitely motivated."

One of the main goals of the meet was to prepare the swimmers for the rigor of larger competitions, like the state meet, which requires athletes to be able to perform well across multiple days.

"We do these two-day meets to help them build that endurance, both mentally and physically," Seiloff explained. "They need to be able to put in a strong performance on Friday and then turn around and do it again on Saturday. That's exactly what we're practicing for, and I thought we did a really good job of that this weekend. It was good preparation for state, and I was pleased with how we bounced back on day two."

One of the highlights of the meet was the performance of the distance swimmers, particularly those who had not yet had a chance to compete in their main events earlier in the season. The meet saw several swimmers compete in the 200-yard and 500-yard Freestyle events for the first time, giving them a chance to showcase their endurance.

"We finally got to see some of our distance girls in action, and they turned in some solid swims," Seiloff noted. "For a few of them, it was their first time ever doing the 500, and they handled it really well. It's always nerve-wracking for the first-timers, but they got through it and performed strongly."

Several younger swimmers stood out during the weekend's competition. Freshman Zoe Gilmore earned special recognition from Seiloff for her continued progress. Though she just missed qualifying for state, Gilmore is on the verge of securing her spot, and her time drops were a promising sign.

"Zoe is really fun to watch," Seiloff said. "She's working incredibly hard at practice, and she's cutting time every meet. She's right there, so close to qualifying, and I'm confident she'll get there soon."

Sophomore Peyton Murray also impressed with her improvement, particularly in the 100-yard Backstroke and Sprint Freestyle events. Murray's performances have continued to improve, and she is closing in on several qualifying times.

"Peyton had some strong swims this weekend," Seiloff noted. "Her backstroke and freestyle times are really coming along, and it's been exciting to see her growth this season. She's one to watch as we move further into the season."

Senior Haley Luth, another standout for the Lady Wolves, showed leadership in her 100-yard Backstroke performance.

"Haley had a great meet," Seiloff said. "She's been a strong swimmer for us, and her backstroke, in particular, was impressive. It's always great to see the upperclassmen stepping up and leading by example."

Despite the focus on individual achievements, Seiloff stressed that the weekend was a team effort.

"It's always hard to pick just one standout because I really thought everyone had something positive going on," she said. "We had strong swims across the board, and that's what I'm most proud of-this was truly a team performance."

As the team looks ahead to the rest of the season, Seiloff remains optimistic about their trajectory. Several swimmers are closing in on state qualifying times, and the team continues to build momentum.

"We're definitely heading in the right direction," Seiloff said. "The girls are racing hard, improving, and showing a lot of competitiveness. I'm really proud of where we are at this stage, and I'm excited to see how we continue to grow."

Seiloff emphasized that the meet not only showcased the swimmers' hard work but also prepared them for the challenges ahead.

"We're practicing to get better and be ready when the time comes," she said. "This meet was a great step forward, and I'm confident that we'll see even stronger performances in the coming weeks."

With the season still in its early stages, the Green River Lady Wolves are setting themselves up for a strong run toward the state meet. Their dedication, combined with solid performances from both veteran and young swimmers, has given the team plenty to build on as they move forward.

"We're in a good spot," Seiloff concluded. "The girls are putting in the effort, and it's showing in the pool. I'm proud of their progress, and I'm looking forward to what's next."
