Lady Wolves Swimming and Diving team dive into competition

The Green River Lady Wolves Swimming and Diving team made a splash at their first meet of the season in Gillette, showcasing both talent and potential as they dove into competition. Head Coach Colleen Seiloff expressed optimism about the team's performance, noting that they are starting the season on solid ground, even after the team moved from 3A to 4A competition.

"For the first weekend, I thought we did well," Coach Seiloff said. "We always try to compare the beginning of the year to last year, and we saw time improvements or girls who were close to where they were last year. We're starting out in a good spot."

The meet, structured as a pentathlon, provided an opportunity for all swimmers to test their abilities across a range of events.

Green River's Tavia Arnell conquered the day, winning the pentathlon. Arnell claimed first place in four of the five events. She won the 100 Yard Freestyle, the 100 Yard Backstroke, the 100 Yard Butterfly and the 50 Yard Freestyle. She also placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

Coach Seiloff was also particularly impressed with the performance of the younger swimmers, especially the freshmen who are new to the team.

"Our younger girls, especially the freshmen, showed some promising things," she noted. "Zoe, one of our freshmen, came close to qualifying in her first meet, missing the mark by just two-hundredths of a second in the 100 freestyle."

Beyond the individual performances, team chemistry was also a focal point for the Lady Wolves. The transition from practice to competition can be challenging, but the team rose to the occasion.

"We've been focusing on getting the girls into the routine of caring for each other and staying positive," Seiloff said. "I thought they did a great job of picking out the good things in their swims while also identifying areas to improve without dwelling on the negatives."

The Lady Wolves' upperclassmen played a crucial role in setting a positive tone for the team, leading by example both in and out of the pool.

"Our upperclassmen really got out there and cheered for each other, showing good sportsmanship," Seiloff added. "As a team, everyone raced hard, and we picked up six qualifiers for 4A, which is a great start."

Looking ahead, the team is eager to compete in their home pool, where they will focus on building on their early successes and capitalizing on the familiarity of their environment.

"After traveling all the way to Gillette, it's nice to be home this weekend," said Seiloff. "We'll be focusing on having good, solid meets and taking advantage of being in our own pool."

Despite a few team members dealing with early-season illnesses, Coach Seiloff is confident that the Wolves will continue to improve as the season progresses.

"We're in a good spot, and I'm excited to see how the girls continue to grow," she concluded.

With a mix of experienced leaders and promising newcomers, the Green River Lady Wolves Swimming and Diving team is poised for an exciting season.
