GRHS Cross Country team is off to a good start

The Green River High School Cross Country boys and girls teams started the season with a small but successful meet in Rock Springs.

Going up against only a handful of other teams at all different levels, from 2A to 4A, the Green River athletes held their own and came away with top finishes.

"The girls were pretty competitive," Head Coach Craig Leavitt explained. "They grouped up and we had all five in the top 11."

The Green River girls also took first overall among the girls teams.

On the boys' side, it was the first meet for many of the athletes, but they still had two boys finish in the top 10 and four end up within the top 20.

"That was a pretty good opener for such a young team," Coach Leavitt said. "They definitely got their feet wet in what cross country looks like."

Leavitt also hopes that getting the first race out of the way will help the whole team feel more confident and start dropping better times as the season goes on. Still, he feels like they're off to a good start.

"We'll just keep chipping away at it and see what we come up with," Leavitt added.

The team's next meet is also likely to be a small one as they head to Ethete for the Wyoming Indian Invite on Friday.
