The Green River Greenbelt Task Force continues to steadily work on their goals as they maintain and develop the greenbelt and land around Green River.
Recently, the Greenbelt Task Force was the recipient of the Sweetwater County Conservation District Community Enhancement Grant.
"They successfully wrote a grant an received $5,000.00 to chemically treat the river corridor of Russian Olive Trees and Tamarisk from native habitat along the city's greenbelt corridor," a press release explained.
The Sweetwater County Conservation District offers the grant every spring in order to "provide opportunities for groups and organizations to serve their communities by working together on projects to enhance our natural resources and improve community awareness with a focus on natural resources," the district website explains.
Projects that address soil erosion, water quality and quantity, vegetation resources, energy conservation, wildlife habitat, natural resource education or that beautify the natural landscape along public corridors are all eligible to receive the grant.
As they continue to work on new projects, the Greenbelt Taskforce also continues to work closely with the City of Green River. The long-standing Memorandum of Understanding between the city and the task force was renewed with just a few small changes at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.
