Castle Rock develops new initiatives

The Castle Rock Hospital Board of Trustees laid out new strategies and updates during their regular meeting on Tuesday in order to emphasize their commitment to enhancing community services and improving employee well-being.

The meeting showcased efforts to bolster community involvement and recruitment. Kris Sherwin is making an impact through a community-oriented initiative, hosting a free dermatology day. With 32 patients scheduled for Wednesday, Sherwin’s commitment exemplifies the board’s dedication to community outreach and improving access to healthcare services.

Noteworthy progress was also reported in the area of patient engagement and portal usage, with upcoming changes aimed at driving more interaction through digital platforms.

The meeting was also marked by a robust discussion on revising employee benefits. A key topic was the proposed changes to Paid Time Off (PTO) policies.

“We’re aiming to create a fairer system where part-time employees earn PTO at the same rate as full-time employees,” stated Todd Toolson.

The plan also includes updating the policy to reduce the buyback amount for unused PTO. This is established to cultivate an environment in which the mental and physical well-being of patients and employees are top priority. As it stands, employees will be able to sell back unused PTO at 75% of their wage starting July 1, 2025.

The board also discussed the importance of consistency and flexibility in work hours, highlighting a shift from 36 to 39 hours per week for full-time employees. This adjustment is intended to streamline operations and better manage overtime costs.

The strategic plan’s progress was another focal point of the meeting, with significant strides noted in integrating behavioral health services into daily operations.

“We are making real headway in incorporating behavioral health into our services,” noted Bailie Dockter. The discussion included plans to enhance mental health support for emergency responders, an essential step for their well-being.

Additionally, speakers highlighted recent updates, including a significant increase in the Green River Rec Center membership for employees, reflecting a broader trend in addressing employee wellness.

Looking ahead, the board plans to finalize a new signature resolution for purchasing property, a strategic move aimed at enhancing operational capabilities. Additionally, they will continue exploring options to support staff, including potential daycare solutions and new marketing strategies for clinic services.
