Knights C team competes in Wyoming Legion C State Tournament

Last Thursday through Sunday, the Green River Knights C team competed in the 2024 Wyoming Legion C State Tournament in Lovell.

For the Knights C team's first game, they played against the Douglas Cats C "Blue" team. In the first two innings, neither team scored. During the third inning, the Knights took the lead, scoring one run. Neither team scored again in the fourth inning. Then the Knights scored three more runs during the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, neither team scored. Lastly, in the seventh inning, the Cats scored one point, getting them on the score board. The game ended with the Knights C team's win, with a final score of 4-1.

Leading the team were Brylan Ginestar, Sam Dockter, Manuel Munoz and Korbin Nielson with one run each.

Next, for the Knights C team's second game, they played against the Laramie Rangers C Team. In the first inning, both teams tied, scoring one run each. Neither team scored in the second inning. Then in the third and forth innings, the Rangers' took the lead, scoring six runs in all. Next, the tables turned with the Knights scoring three runs in the fifth inning. Neither team scored in the sixth inning. Lastly, in the seventh inning, the Knights scored three runs to the Rangers' one. The game resulted in the Knights' close loss, with a final score of 7-8.

Leading the team this game were Ginestar, Dockter, Munoz, Nielson, JD Bingham, Aiden Mandros and Alex Anders, all with one run each.

Continuing forward in the tournament, the Knights next played against the Gillette Jr. Riders "Black" team. Starting this game, in the first inning, the Knights scored two runs to the Jr. Riders' one. Then, the Jr. Riders soared ahead with two runs in the second inning, and another run in the third. Neither team scored in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, the Knights made a comeback, scoring three runs against the Jr. Riders and another run in the sixth. Lastly, in the seventh inning, the Jr. Riders scored one more run. The game resulted in the Knights' win, with a final score of 6-5.

Leading the team was Munoz with two runs, along with Ginestar, Dockter, Nielson and Mandros with one run each.

Lastly, for the Knights' fourth game in the tournament, they played against the Cheyenne Post 6 Indians. In the first inning, the Knights took the lead, scoring two runs to the Indians' one. Turing the tables, the Indians scored five runs in the second inning and three more in the third. Neither team scored in the fourth inning. Lastly, in the fifth inning, the Knights scored two more runs. The game ended in the Knights' loss, with a final score of 4-9.

Leading the team was Ginestar with two runs, along with Dockter and Munoz with one run each.

The Knights C team finished the Wyoming Legion C State tournament in fourth place.

"It was great," said Coach Kole Marquez. "The boys played their hearts out and I feel like it was a good experience and a good learning curve for the boys and us as well as coaches."

After a strong season, the Knights C team is now done for the year.

Coach Marquez finishing off saying, "As a coach for me it was one of my favorite seasons. This is a great group of boys. They're very respectful, they do anything you ask, they work their butts off, and we had a very successful season. We ended the season 36 and nine, and also went two and two at State. They played really good and I'm super proud of it. I know the whole coaching staff as a whole is super proud of this group of young men."
