Knights "C" team earns five wins, heads to State Tournament

The Green River Knights Legion Baseball C Team played five games last week from Friday though Sunday in their last tournament before they head to State.

In the Knights' first game, they played against the Gillette Junior Riders Red team. During the first three innings of this game, neither team scored. In the fourth inning, the Knights scored one run to the Junior Riders' two. Then during the fifth inning, the Knights scored two more runs. Lastly, in the sixth and seventh inning, neither team scored, ending the game. The game resulted in the Knights' victory, with a final score of 3-2.

Leading the team were Brylan Ginestar, Corwin Paoli and Draiven Houchin with one run each.

For the Knights' second game of the tournament, they played against the Sheridan Infantry 15U team. In the first two innings, neither team scored any runs. Then during the third inning, the game took a turn with the Knights scoring two runs to the Infantry's four. With three more runs in the fifth inning, the Infantry team took the lead. Lastly, in the fifth inning, the Knights came back with 11 runs, finishing the game. The game resulted in the Knights' win, with a final score of 13-7.

Leading the team was Sam Dockter with three runs. Other team members who scored were Brylan Ginestar, Manuel Munoz and Garrett Greene with two runs each, along with Korbin Nielson, JD Bingham, Aiden Mandros and Draiven Houchin with one run each.

Next the Knights played against the Spearfish Teeners 14U team. In the first and second inning, the Knights took the lead, scoring five runs in all. Then, in the fourth and fifth innings, neither team scored. During the sixth inning the Teeners' scored three runs. Lastly, in the seventh inning, the Knights scored two additional runs. The game ended with the Knights' victory, keeping their streak going with a final score of 9-4.

Leading the team this game were Manuel Munoz and Korbin Nielson with two runs each, along with Brylan Ginestar, Sam Dockter, Draiven Houchin and Jonah Firebel with one run each.

On Sunday, the Knights played against the Laramie Rangers C team. In the first inning, neither team scored. During the second inning, the Rangers C team took the lead, scoring three runs to the Knights' one. Then, the Knights scored two runs in the third inning. Neither team scored in the fourth inning. During the fifth inning, the Knights scored one run. Neither team scored in the sixth and seventh inning. The game resulted in the Knights' win, again continuing the winning streak. The final score was a close 4-3.

Leading the team was Sam Dockter with two runs, along with Korbin Nielson and Draiven Houchin with one run each.

Lastly, for the Knights C team's fifth game of the tournament, they again played the Sheridan Infantry 15U team. In the first inning and second inning, the Knights took the lead, scoring five runs. During the second inning, the Knights scored seven runs to the Infantry team's three runs. Then, in the fourth and fifth innings, the Infantry team scored two more runs. Finishing off, in the sixth inning, the Knights scored an additional run. The game ended with the Knights' victory and their winning streak unbroken. The final score was 13-5.

Leading the team were Brylan Ginester, Sam Dockter, Manuel Munoz, Alex Anderson and Draiven Houchun with two runs each, along with Korbin Nielson and Corwin Paoli with one run each.

Overall this year, the Knights C team has played a strong season, with a record of 34-7.

"It's been a great season," Coach Kole Marquez said. "We've put a lot of miles on the bus, we've worked our butts off and our record shows for it."

Next, the Green River Knights C Team is traveling to Lovell to compete in the Class C State Championship Tournament. The tournament started today and goes until Sunday.

When asked about the State tournament, Coach Marquez said, "We're really excited. We've had a really good season and I hope we can take advantage of all our hard work and be successful out there."
