As construction season kicks into gear during the summer months, several new construction projects will be starting up in and around Green River during July.
R&D Sweeping and Asphalt Maintenance is scheduled to start asphalt patch work in the city to kick off the 2024 Cape Seal Project in Green River. Patch work will be the first phase of the multi-phase project, according to a press release from the city. The work is expected to begin July 15.
The streets affected by the project include South 4th West, Wild Horse Canyon, East Teton, Bridger, Monroe, Juniper, and Cedar. Patch work will be performed at relatively small, isolated areas along these streets.
"Residents can expect temporary lane closures and detours," the city explained. "Residents driving these streets should be on the lookout for and obey traffic control devices and crews. Under normal conditions, asphalt patches may be opened to traffic a few hours after installation."
Following the asphalt patch work, major streets will receive a chip seal surface treatment, and residential streets will receive a slurry seal surface treatment, according to the press release. This work is scheduled to begin later in July.
"The slurry and chip seal treatments will require additional and more extensive road closures and detours," the city said. "Residents are urged to plan accordingly."
Anyone with questions or concerns related to the 2024 Cape Seal Project can contact the City of Green River Engineering Division at (307) 872-0524 or (307) 871-3132.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation will also be doing construction projects along Interstate 80.
WYDOT contract crews from DeBernardi Construction Company, Inc. have closed access to the bridge over the Green River on WYO 374, the Jamestown Road, for bridge repair work. This project began on Tuesday, July 9. Variable message boards have been installed warning local drivers of the upcoming closure.
"Residents and motorists wishing to access west of the bridge will have to detour on Interstate 80 using Exit 85, near the Love's truck stop," WYDOT explained in a press release. "The east side of the bridge closure will be accessible from Green River or by using Exit 89 on Interstate 80."
The closure is expected to last roughly three months while crews replace the bridge deck, according to WYDOT. The work is part of a district wide bridge rehabilitation job. The completion date for the work is October 31.
WYDOT maintenance crews are also working on the shoulder of Interstate 80 this week for culvert cleaning operations near exit 99.
"The work is necessary to remove silt and debris from clogged culverts to improve drainage around the roadway," a press release explained. "Crews will be working in the area all week. WYDOT asks drivers to be aware of roadside workers, reduce your speeds and watch out for heavy equipment moving on the shoulder."
