The Wyoming State Golf Association (WSGA) hired golf professional Matt Kantor as their new Director of Operations and Tournaments this year. This position was previously held by former Green River resident Dave Snyder, who was also the former Head Golf Professional at Rolling Green Country Club from 1998-2004. Snyder served as the Executive Director of the WSGA from 2014 to 2023.
Kantor, a Colorado native, has been a PGA Professional for over 15 years. He and his wife Miranda, who is originally from Wyoming, have three daughters who are passionate golfers. Miranda has won both the WSGA Women's Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship and was an All-State honoree for Green River High School Golf in the mid 1990s. Matt and his family are thrilled to be joining the WSGA and are looking forward to achieving great things in the future.
Kantor has already seen success with this year's summer tournament season. The Wyoming Junior Amateur, hosted by Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington, had a record number of participants, especially in the girls 15–18-year-old division. This division had 13 participants this year, in comparison to last year when the division only had four total participants. Local Green River Junior Golfer Isabell Salas was on the podium with a second-place finish.
This past weekend, Kantor and the WSGA hosted the Men's and Women's Amateur in neighboring Evanston at Purple Sage Golf Course, and again saw large numbers of participants. An astonishing 14 women played in the Championship Flight, with former Green River resident and UNLV commit Ali Mulhall taking home the top prize for the sixth time. The total number of golfers at this event was a staggering 111.
Some changes are also being ushered in alongside Kantor. The WSGA is now working in collaboration with the Colorado Golf Association (CGA) to deliver the USGA Core Services in the state of Wyoming, including enhanced handicapping services. Another example of the collaboration is a CGA Junior Cup event being hosted at 3 Crowns Golf Course in Casper this week. The CGA gave an exemption and invitation to the Wyoming State Junior Amateur top three girls in the 15-18-year-old division and the top six 15–18-year-old boys. Kantor is also looking forward to the WSGA hosting more tournaments in the Southwest region of the state.
