Local student raising funds to attend National Pathways to STEM event

Green River fourth grader Rowan Kinney from Harrison Elementary School is raising funds to be able to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathways to STEM event.

Rowan was nominated by his teacher, Melanee Litz, in honor of his "maturity and academic excellence" and his "leadership potential."

"NYLF Pathways to STEM is a unique learning experience for bright, forward-thinking elementary school students who will evolve into next generation innovators, engineers, doctors, software developers, and scientists," the Envision Experience website explains. "NYLF Pathways to STEM is a fantastic opportunity for curious and high-aspiring young students to make new friends and enjoy unforgettable adventures while exploring the frontiers of 21st century science and technology."

The Denver Camp for Pathways to STEM will take place July 15 to 19.

Rowan is the only student from Harrison who was nominated to attend. At nine years old, he loves learning about all STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

"You have to use your brain a lot," he said of studying STEM.

He enjoys math the best, and likes doing brain teasers and puzzles.

Rowan is working to raise $7,000 to help cover expenses for the event and the trip. He is accepting donations, and is selling 50/50 raffle tickets for $5 a ticket or five tickets for $20. The drawing will be held through Facebook Live on June 30.

Those who wish to donate or buy raffle tickets can contact Kristopher Kinney at (307) 871-0124.
