Wolves take down Wranglers

The Green River Wolves Soccer team have had an outstanding season. They have won eleven games this year and have lost two. Nine of the wins were conference games which has currently set them up as the number one team in the 3A West Conference.

"The boys have worked really hard," explained Assistant Coach Greg Doak when asked about being ranked number one in the 3A West. "Us coaches have put a lot of thought and effort into getting the boys to this point, but ultimately, they're the ones that are playing and they deserve this spot."

On Friday, the Wolves traveled to Pinedale to play a conference game against the Wranglers. Green River hit the field strong, outscoring Pinedale and winning the game with a final score of 4-2.

Leading the team were Maddux Hintz and Irie Kuball with two goals each along with Goalkeeper Eddie Zarate with three saves.

"They did very well and possessed the ball very well," said Coach Doak about the game against Pinedale. "We pretty much controlled the game. We did have some defensive breakdowns and that's why we ultimately got scored on. For the most part, they moved the ball well, they communicated well and we had a lot of opportunities to score. We didn't capitalize on some of them, but we played a hundred times better than the week before."

The Wolves will travel to play their last conference games against Powell on Friday and Cody on Saturday. If Green River wins both of these games, they will be set up in a great position for the championships.

Green River will be competing in the 3A State Championships that take place in Green River on May 16-18.
