Wolves Softball beats Kelly Walsh and Worland

The Green River Wolves Softball team hosted a conference game against the Natrona County Fillies last Friday. It was an intense first two innings as the score was held 0-0. The Wolves scored two runs in the third inning as Natrona was held to zero. Natrona scored four runs in the fourth inning and took the lead. The Wolves got into some trouble with some errors on the field and couldn't recover. Natrona continued to score while Green River was unable to bring another runner home. Green River lost the game with a final score of 2-6.

Leading the team were Izzy Kelley and Ally White with one run each. Chacee Shiner batted in the two runs, along with Kodi Allred with two hits in three bats. Haidyn Terry pitched six innings, allowing six runs on 15 hits, striking out one and walking one player.

Green River played their second game against Natrona, and it was another loss for the Wolves. Natrona got on the board in the first inning with three runs to Green River's two. In the second inning, Natrona flew by Green River with seven runs to Green River's one run. The Wolves fell further behind when the Fillies scored seven more runs in the fourth inning. Green River lost with a final score of 6-18.

Leading the team was Danielle Maag with two runs, along with one run each from Kelley, Gina Barajas, Shiner and Jocelyn Shantz. Allred, Maag and Shantz had two hits each while Allred and Shantz drove in two runs each. Terryn Avery pitched three innings, allowing 15 runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking eight players.

"We lost because we had too many back-to-back-to-back errors," said Head Coach Blair McEndaffer. "We need to clean it up a little bit on the defensive side."

She also said the left fielder for Natrona County was making a lot of impressive catches for the Fillies and it hurt Green River.

On Saturday, the Wolves hosted a conference game against the Kelly Walsh Trojans. In the first inning, Kelly Walsh scored one run while Green River was held to zero. In the second inning, Green River jumped ahead of Kelly Walsh, bringing in three runs. Green River dominated the next two innings, bringing in ten more runs to Kelly Walsh's one run. It was a victorious win for the Wolves with a final score of 13-2.

Leading the team was Maag with three runs, along with Kelley, Terry, Avery and White with two runs each and Barajas and Shantz with one run each. Terry pitched five innings, allowing three hits, striking out three and walking four players. Green River had 16 impressive hits during the game, with Maag and Shiner each collecting three hits while Barajas and White drove in three runs each for the Wolves.

During their second game against Kelly Walsh, Green River pulled off another impressive win. Green River started the game with one run in the first inning and five runs in the third inning. The scoreboard was much closer, as Green River kept Kelly Walsh from scoring until the fourth inning. Kelly Walsh scored two runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth inning. Green River came out on top with a final score of 6-5.

Leading the team were Kelley, Barajas, Shiner, Allred, Terry and Terryn Avery (Cassie Kelley was the pinch runner for Avery) with one run each. Avery pitched over five innings, allowing six hits, striking out four and walking five players. Terry batted in two runs while Aaliyah Casper, Allred, Kelley and Avery had two hits each during the game. Green River won the game with zero errors on the field.

"We were hitting the ball hard," explained Coach McEndaffer. "And we're finally finding some holes."

She was very happy that the girls cut down their errors and mentioned that they still made mistakes but the big difference was they didn't make consistent mistakes. If someone made a mistake, their teammate picked them up. When they play like that, they win games.

On Tuesday, Green River hosted a doubleheader against the Worland Warriors.

In the first game, Green River scored two runs in the first inning while Worland was unable to get on the board. Green River continued the lead throughout the rest of the game, scoring one run in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning. The Wolves won the game with a final score of 10-0.

Leading the team was Shiner with three runs, Allred with two runs and Kelley, Barajas, Terry, Avery and Maag with one run each. Terry pitched over five innings, allowing three hits, striking out three and walking two players. Terry also had three hits in three bats while Avery batted in three runs and Allred, Kelley and Shiner had multiple hits during the game.

In the second game, Green River showed up to play some tough ball as they started the game with nine runs in the first inning. The Wolves scored two more runs in the fourth inning, sealing their win over the Warriors with a final score of 11-6.

Leading the team were Barajas and White with two runs each along with runs from Kelley, Shiner, Allred, Terry, Maag, Avery (Cassie Kelley was the pinch runner for Avery) and Abby Harrison (Allred was the pinch runner for Harrison). Kelley led the team with three hits on four bats and batted in two runs along with Allred and Avery batting in two runs. Green River collected 11 hits and kept their eye on the ball, receiving eight walks during the game and stealing five bases. Avery pitched over three innings, allowing three hits and six runs, striking out none and walking five players.

Green River will host another doubleheader against the Rock Springs Tigers at 3:30 and 5 p.m. today. Come and support the ladies for their last home games!
