The Green River High School Track and Field Team traveled to the "Icebox Capital of the World" this past Friday for the Puncher Invite in Big Piney. It was one of the better weather days of this spring, with temperatures reaching 65 degrees there although it was windy.
Teams competing included the host Big Piney, Green River, Mountain View, Kemmerer, Dubois, Evanston, Farson/Eden, Pinedale, Lyman, Ft. Washakie, Shoshoni, Star Valley and Western Heritage Lutheran Academy.
The Green River boys finished first out of the 13 boys teams, while the girls finished in third place among the 11 girls teams competing.
Top four finishers for the boys included Senior Chris Wilson who was first in the Long Jump, 200 Meter Dash and 300 Meter Hurdles and second in the 110 Meter Hurdles; Senior Raab Poignee taking third in the 100 Meter Dash; Chaz Helmandollar, a junior, who took third in the High Jump; Junior Andrew Jordan coming in second in the 1600 Meter Run; and three junior pole vaulters, with Trace Erdman taking first, Keegan Gailey in third and Christian Oswald finishing fourth.
Finishing in the top four places for the girls were Freshman Nicole Wilson taking first in the High Jump and 300 Meter Hurdles and second in the 200 Meter dash; Izzy Murdock, a junior, who finished first in the 1600 Meter Run; Junior Mikayla Dockter taking second in the Pole Vault; Freshman Ellie Quiroz coming in second in the High Jump; Senior Madison Murdock taking fourth in the 800 Meter Run; and Sophomore Sophia Arnold finishing fourth in both the Shot Put and the Discuss throws.
Green River had a meet scheduled this Wednesday at Star Valley which was canceled due to weather, but the Wolves will host the Green River Invitational starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 19.
