Wolves Softball team hits the field strong in Casper

The Green River Wolves Softball team traveled to Casper last weekend for two days of action against the Kelly Walsh Trojans and the Natrona County Fillies.

On Friday, the Wolves took on the Trojans and played their first conference game of the season. It was a back-and-forth struggle the entire game as both teams scored against each other and fought for the win. Eventually, the Wolves took the lead and defeated the Trojans with a final score of 17-14.

Leading the team was Izzy Kelley with five hits in six bats and three stolen bases, along with Chacee Shiner with four hits. Green River had 20 hits during the game, including hits from Danielle Maag, Kelley, Shiner, Kodi Allred, and Terry.

Haidyn Terry pitched over four innings, allowing 16 hits and 13 runs, striking out four, and walking two players. Tarryn Avery also pitched over two innings, allowing three hits and one run, striking out two, and walking four players.

Head Coach Blair McEndaffer said it was one of those games that was really fun to play in, really fun to coach and really fun to watch. She explained that the girls never gave up, battled for the victory, and won because they played as a team.

On Saturday, the Wolves played another conference game against the Fillies. Green River battled to win the game but ultimately fell short. The Wolves lost the game with a final score of 7-17.

Leading the team was Allred with three hits in four bats and Kelley with three hits and two stolen bases. Green River had 15 hits and four stolen bases during the game, including hits from Allred, Kelley, Terry Gina Barajas and Avery.

Avery pitched three innings, allowing four hits and seven runs, striking out one, and walking six players. Terry pitched over two innings, allowing 10 runs on 16 hits, striking out none, and walking no players.

Coach McEndaffer said they girls played really hard during the game but unfortunately there were was a rule in the rulebook that wasn't called correctly by the umpire and it was a momentum shift in the game.

"I'm really proud of the girls," she said, "They're continuing to push and play. The sport's not easy and we had some girls play through some injuries and they never complained once."

Green River will be hosting games against the Rock Springs Tigers today at 3:30 and 5 p.m. Come and support Green River and fill the stands!
