Wolves take on Evanston and Jackson in close "nail biter" games

The Wolves hit the court ready to play last weekend. After facing some hard defeats the previous week, the Green River High School Boys Basketball team was ready to make the changes they needed as they faced the Evanston Red Devils and the Jackson Hole Broncs - two teams who defeated the Wolves earlier in the first conference games of the season.

This time around, the Wolves played hard and held their own until the end in both games, which were "nail biters," according to Head Coach Laurie Ivie. While the close games led to a two-point defeat by Evanston, they also led to a one-point victory for the Wolves over Jackson.

The intense competition started when the Wolves traveled to Evanston on Thursday to take on the Red Devils.

"The Evanston game was a hard-fought battle that went into overtime," Coach Ivie explained. "Despite a valiant effort, we came up just short."

During the overtime showdown, the Red Devils managed to score two extra points to pull off the final 67-65 win.

Despite the loss, it was a strong performance from the Wolves.

"The players showed tremendous resilience and determination, leaving everything on the court," Ivie said. "Hunter Lake and Theran Archibald both had big games for the Wolves."

Lake and Archibald's big games included dominated the scoring, getting 50 of the Wolves' 65 points between the two of them. Archibald had 27 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Lake had 23 points, two assists, and one steal. Chris Wilson also contributed seven points, two assists, one rebound, and one steal. Adrian Ruiz had six points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal. A.J. Keelin had two points, three rebounds, and two steals as well. Daxton Taylor also contributed two rebounds.

On Saturday, the Wolves were back home to host a conference game against the Jackson Hole Broncs. It was another intense game that saw the Wolves keep pace with their competition throughout. After their close loss to Evanston, Green River fought hard for their final 53-52 victory over the Broncs.

"We bounced back with a one-point win against Jackson," Coach Ivie explained. "I was extremely proud of our team's ability to stay focused and execute under pressure. It was a testament to our team's resilience and commitment to each other."

Archibald once again led the scoring for the Wolves with 14 points, followed closely by Lake and Wilson, who scored 13 points each. Everyone contributed to the final score, with Keelin getting five points, Ruiz getting four, and both Taylor and Bryson Birch getting two points each. Keelin led the team in rebounds with 11, followed by Archibald with seven and Birch with six.

The Wolves will look to keep the intense competition going as they wrap up their regular season this week. First they will take on Star Valley today at 7 p.m., and both boys and girls basketball seniors and their families will be honored between the girls game and boys game. Then the Wolves will compete in the annual Make-A-Wish game against Rock Springs on Friday, with the boys game starting at 7:30 p.m. and recognitions and Make-A-Wish results taking place between the girls and boys games.
