The Green River Wolves Swimming and Diving team traveled to Laramie to compete in the 3A State Championship last Friday and Saturday.
This young team of athletes has continued to improve all year, and they finished their season in sixth place out of 13 teams at the Championships.
“I was just really pleased with their performance,” said Head Coach Colleen Seiloff. “I think our sixth place finish was a strong finish for our young team. We had some really good swims and some really good improvements. They improved a whole bunch this year and I’m excited for next year.”
For the first event of the day, Senior Joe Renfro swam the 50 Yard Freestyle in 31.69 seconds and was awarded first place. Renfro was awarded the Nancy Nakahara Profile in Courage Award. This award is given to athletes that have prevailed over adversity to fulfill their athletic dreams.
Colin Gilmore also led the Wolves with a second-place victory in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Gilmore dropped 5.37 seconds and finished the race with a time of 4:55.31, right behind Kemmerer’s Malachi Villarreal, who won the race. Vance Lauriski-Adams had a great race and finished in 11th place.
Keegan Gailey led the divers in the One-Meter Diving event. Gailey finished in fourth place with 377.65 points, along with Irie Kuball taking eighth place with 332.25 points.
In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Green River’s “A” team finished in 10th place with a time of 1:55.28. The swimmers were Logan Wadsworth, Andrew Neher, Dallan Owens and Irie Kuball.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Green River had two swimmers in the top 12. Gilmore took second place and Mitchell Horn came in 10th.
In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Ashton Hafner finished the race strong, dropping 1.44 seconds and claiming seventh place with a time of 58.16.
Mitchell Horn finished in ninth place in the 100 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 52.96.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle event, Green River’s “A” team dropped 1.76 seconds and came in fifth place. The swimmers were Mitchell Horn, Ashton Hafner, Andrew Neher and Colin Gilmore.
Green River’s “A” relay team also had an impressive finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle event, taking fourth place with a time of 3:30.04, dropping 4.23 seconds. The swimmers included Mitchell Horn, Ashton Hafner, Andrew Neher and Colin Gilmore.
